When you combine an absolute classic likeDemon’s Soulswith the developer Bluepoint who oversawthe remake of the game, you end up with some pretty fun easter eggs, even if some of them are just the developer staying true to the original game.

After the release of Bluepoint’s remake ofShadow Of The Colossus, they got to work rather quickly on aremake ofDemon’s Souls, which is pretty much the graphical standard for the PS5 now. While they did their best to merely remake the game that FromSoftware had already put tons of hard work in on, they also added a little flair here and there.

10Rubber Duckies

During the creation of theDemon’s Soulsremake, there were plenty of assets that Bluepoint could have used to test the physics of certain entities within the game. While they could have just gone with the actual character models to be used in various scenarios, they didn’t. Instead, during development, they used a model of a rubber ducky instead, just to make sure everything was coded smoothly. While it doesn’t exactly appear in the game’s code anymore, they do include a bunch of goat headsused inShadow Of The Colossusin the credits.

9Dragon Ball Z

While it might not be incredibly familiar to everyone who’s playing theDemon’s Soulsremake, and probably even less of the people who’ve made it their first entry in the franchise, the gameincludes aDragon Ballmeme. In the Ocean dub ofDragon Ball Z, Vegeta remarks that the power-level of Goku is “Over 9000”, which is a possible choice in the game that’s included for the purpose of leaving notes. It’s obvious that it has no functional capacity, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun.

8Metal Gear

Metal Gearis a franchise that has a lot of crossover with fans of FromSoftware’sSoulsseries, and it might just have a little more than meets the eye. While the developer claims that a small, eerie, metallic sound that can be heard faintly in the background of some areas might just be a glitch as Sony has stated at this point,it could be something else.

Vegeta firekeeper

People around the internet have noticed its similarity to Metal Gear Rex, an enemy inMetal Gear Solid. Fans have taken this as a possible hint at Bluepoint’s next remake project.

7Inaccessible Area

Once this fact came to light, the internet was set ablaze with rumors of what could possibly be housed inside a large area that was discovered when fans noticed a large door that wouldn’t open. When fans started to notice, they played around with Photo Mode and got inside, which Bluepoint responded to with a tweet of a screenshot of the area. Eventually, a speed-runner figured out how to get inside. The hidden area allows the player to pick up a secret armor set once they get inside.

6Fight The Old One Early

After defeating the enemies in the tutorial area, it’s pretty obvious that from here, the game wants you to go in one specific direction, considering the Vanguard is nigh-unkillable. That being said, it is indeed possible to defeat the Vanguard, and doing so will take you to an area filled with goodies. There’s also a large dragon outside. Leaving this area to explore will get the player immediately one-shotted by The Old One, the main antagonist of the game.

5Halloween Challenge

Speaking of The Old One, there’s another place in which this eldritch creature comes into play. The Old One is powered up on Halloween(or at least was, during the one Halloween for which the game has been out).

During this time, as a result of The Old One being more powerful, so too were all of the enemies present across the game’s world. Defeating them would reward the player with more Souls, at the cost of probably dying more frequently than normal.

4One-Hit Glitch

This one isn’t really an easter egg so much as it is a glitch, but it could also have been put in the game by Bluepoint either to reward enterprising gamers or maybe even as a way to toss an easy mode into the game secretly since they had considered adding one during the development process. To do it, the player needs to get a gold coin, talk to the Black Maiden (which will up the player’s luck), and then acquire the Blueblood Sword, which scales with the Luck stat.

3Cat Ring

The Cat Ring is an item from the original game, which allows the player to negate any fall damage while wearing it. The ring’s power is two-fold since it allows the player to bypass certain areas or get to areas that are largely inaccessible.

Aside from that, it makes the player’s life infinitely easier. In the original game, it seems that perhaps FromSoftware made a mistake because the status effect icon for the ring is a picture of an actual cat’s face. While they changed this out for the remake, you’re able to still see the cat’s face during the credits.

26th Archstone

In the originalDemon’s Souls, in the area known as The Nexus, there are 5 areas that the player enters after walking through arches. Despite the fact that there’s a 6th Archstone present, there’s no 6th area in the original game. When the remake was being developed, there was talk among the Bluepoint team about adding a 6th area since FromSoftware didn’t get around to it, only for them to decide not to. The 6th Archstone remains in the remake, leading players to conjecture about potential DLC.

1Astro’s Playroom

This isn’t exactly an easter egginthe game per se, but it’s nonetheless worth mentioning because it’s very cute. On every PS5, there comes preinstalled a Sony game calledAstro’s Playroom, which is meant to be a demonstration of the new Dualshock 5 hardware. The game mostly consists of various references to other games and various areas filled with them, including a reference toDemon’s Souls, which consists of a robot kneeling in front of a hooded figure with a torch, intended to be the Black Maiden.
