It’s almost been a decade since the PS4 launch, and the console is still going strong despite the new system being out. ThePS4may still have a couple of years left before it gets abandoned in time for its tenth anniversary in 2023. That means these games have about two years to come out before things get weird.

Most of these games were announced around 2016 and 2017, but haven’t been heard from since. However, none of them have everofficially been canceled, so there is still hope even if they launch on otherPlayStationconsoles instead, like thePS5. Let’s go through the journeys these eight games have been on so far.
8Beyond Good and Evil 2
Beyond Good and Evil 2was technically first shown in 2008. However, the current project is a different one altogether, which was revealed in 2017. An exact platform was never named back then, nor up to this point. Considering the timeline, it’s safe to assume the goal was to push this out for the then-current platforms, including the PS4.
It had a good showing between 2017 and 2018, but since then things have remained dark, with barely a word fromUbisoftabout the project other than that it isn’t canceled. Since the director, Michel Ancel, retired in 2020 right before some allegations came to light, it’s hard to say what current state this game is currently in.

7Dark Sorcerer
Dark Sorcererwas a technical demo that demonstrated the power of the PS4’s capabilities in 2013. That was the only time it was shown off. The demo was made byQuantic Dream, who was known for making technical demos for the PlayStation family. Even though this technically isn’t a game, all of their demos eventually turned into something.
For example, a demo calledKarain 2012 was the basis forDetroit: Become Human, which would not launch until 2018. Given that timeline,Dark Sorcerershould have been seen again by now. It was just announced that Quantic Dream is working on a newStar Warsgame,Star Wars Eclipse. Maybe at one timeDark Sorcererwas a game idea, but is no longer. It’s hard to say.

6Deep Down
Deep Downwas another technical demo that was shown off to reveal the PS4. At that time, it seemed like it was more of a game compared toDark Sorcerer,as it appeared to have some gameplay. However, it was never seen again after 2013.

It was never officially canceled though, and some games simply take longer to cook than others. It’s possible that the project has gone through multiple rewrites.Capcommay not want to show it off again until it is in a more presentable state closer to a launch window. They’ve been pretty good about doing that withtheir recent gamesin theResident Evilseries. Don’t lose hope yet.
5Eitr
Eitrwas revealed in 2015. After that initial trailer, the project has remained mostly dark. The biggest news since then was on the official Twitter account in 2019. Thiswas a retweetfrom Esc-Toy Ltd — which is a toy company, if that name wasn’t obvious.
Esc-Toy Ltd and the developers struck a deal to make statues of the main character which is in a prototype phase right now. It’s online to check out for those curious. The idea is to include download codes with each figure. The official website still says “under construction,” so nobody really knows what’s up withthis action RPG.

4Lost Soul Aside
Lost Soul Asidelooks like one fan’s dream of making their ownFinal Fantasygame. Specifically, it looks likeFinal Fantasy XV(or at least the main characterlooks like Noctis). Play a Pepsi-like Challenge with a friend, and have them pick out which footage belongs to what game. It could be tricky.
This project was first teased in its early stages in 2016. After that, the game disappeared until 2021 when it showcased new footage and revealed it is also coming to PS5 as well as PS4. There’s still no date, though, so it could easily vanish again.

3Praey For The Gods
Praey for the Godswas first revealed in 2015. After the initial wave of feedback, the game then entered aKickstartercampaign in 2016, wherein it reached its funding. At that time, it had an estimated released date of 2017 onthe crowdfunding site.

Needless to say, it missed that date and several others. However, it did launch in Early Access onPCin 2019 to some positive feedback. The state ofPraey for the Godsis better than most cases. However, even though it is playable, that doesn’t mean it is any closer to reaching a 1.0 status.
2Soul Saga
Soul Sagawas another Kickstarter project; however, his one was earlier thanPraey for the Godsas it launched in 2013. At that time the plan was to release it for PC,PS Vita, PS4 and Wii U. Since the PS Vita andWii Uare dead, it’s safe to assume those builds are gone as well.
Soul Sagalaunched its Early Access campaign on PC in 2020, and looks like another fan’s dream project for aFinal Fantasygame. UnlikeLost Soul Aside,Soul Sagais aiming to capture the early days of theclassic RPG series.

1Wild
Wildwas another project from Michel Ancel that lies in a questionable state. It was from his new studio, Wild Sheep, which was made outside of Ubisoft’s reach. The game was revealed in 2014, following a bigger update in 2015. That was technically the last time it was shown.
In 2017, Ancel went back to Ubisoft to start work onBeyond Good and Evil 2. That’s when the project was revealed, but resumably he started working on it before that.Wildmakes two projects that may have been canceled because of Ancel’s decision to leave the industry. Again, no one knows officially, although rumors seem to indicate that Wild is indeeddead and canceled.
