Amber Heard’s recent testimony in her high-stakes defamation trial with Johnny Depp has caused some raised eyebrows on social media. Such a scenario bears a striking resemblance to one scene inGone Girlwhere Amy Dunne, the film’s main character, describes the exact same ‘bottle’ incident to authorities. Of course, it is quickly revealed that Dunne is making it all up, even going as far as to inflict the damage on herself to make her lies consistent and believable. Viewers also noted that Dunne wrote letters to herself in the film;a practice that Heard claims she also didduring her marriage to Depp. It is important to note that these similarities do not necessarily refute Heard’s allegations.
However, what remains unclear to some people is whether Heard’s medical records actually line up with her claims. InFincher’sGone Girl, Dunne was hospitalized after her ‘bottle’ incident, which would seem to be the obvious next step in such a situation. Viewers have therefore questioned whether Heard was examined after her ‘bottle’ incident since the current assumption is that she did not seek care after the alleged event.
In the meanwhile, an ongoingpetition to remove Heard fromAquaman 2has garnered over 4.5 million signatures, while a new petition to reinstate Depp in the nextPirates of the Caribbeanis approaching 1 million signatures. At this time, it is unclear whether Warner Bros. and Disney will succumb to the fans' demands or not, but what is certain is that both Heard and Depp’s careers will forever be changed by this defamation case, regardless of the result. The $50 million defamation trial is expected to conclude this May 19 with the judge’s final verdict.
