Since Nintendo releasedAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsin 2020, players have been improving their islands to unlock terraforming, so they can create their ideal landscape. OneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfan has turned their island getaway into an homage to the popular Dreamworks movieShrek.

Reddit user Confused_but_valid has been terraforming theirAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsShrek islandsince 2020, ultimately completing the imaginative project after around ten hours and a lot of bells. The process of terraforming inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscan be quite lengthy and pricey without the goal of making it resemble a popular character, but Confused_but_valid’s attention to detail has ensured that the colors used across their island’s landscape kept Shrek in mind. The result of their terraforming is a town map, and flag that look remarkably like the ogre that became an internet meme, as well as a community celebrating the commitment.

Beyond simply creating the green titular hero ofShrekbyterraforming the islandwith different shades of green outlined with the blue of a winding river and some curiously spaced out ponds, Confused_but_valid has also made a Town Flag based on the character’s likeness. Confused_but_valid’s image of the town map shows all the important locations like Nook’s Cranny and the Museum beneath the image of Shrek alongside the houses of ten villagers and two plots representing Confused_but_valid and another player. The aptly named Shrek Island shows a roster of villagers such as Axel, Audie, Celia, Hornsby, Lopez, and Raddle, though it’s missing the Donkey look-alike Buck.

Moving into Confused_but_valid’s depiction of Shrek on the town map is theAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsResident Servicesbuilding acting as a chin for the ogre, while the airport is just beneath that, and Shrek Island’s campsite is on the western beach. Unlike Shrek’s confused face which has become a meme and template for Confused_but_valid’s town, theirNew Horizonstown flag shows the Dreamworks character with a wide smile as he has on the cover art of the movie. While the island’s interpretation of Shrek only shows the character’s head, the flag is able to include his neck and trademarked rugged brown vest.

In response to Confused_but_valid’sAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsShrek Island, over 11,000 fans have expressed their enthusiasm, including one that lamentedNew Horizons’lack of swamp items. Confused_but_valid has confirmed that Smash Mouth’s “All-Star” is their island’s theme, which plays whenever the player interacts withAnimal Crossing’s Blathers, Tom Nook, or other important NPCs. According to Confused_but_valid, their island is an absolute mess despite the clean illusion set by the town map, but theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer intends to expand on Shrek Island with Fiona’s tower or Far Far Away.
