Indiana Jones 5, the movie with a special aversion to telling people its actual title, has just added yet another heavy hitter to its already star-drenched cast. The film, which is currently in production, boasts a stacked roster including big names likeMads Mikkelsen, who has nothing but praise for the script. But even that apparently wasn’t enough for this long-running franchise. Everybody loves an overachiever.

This time, the newest face to grace the bad boy archaeologist series is none other than Zorro himself, Antonio Banderas. The veteran actor, who alsojoined the cast of Tom Holland’sUnchartedfilmlast year, will play a currently unknown role in the newestIndiana Jonesentry, though it would certainly be nice to see him as an old friend of Indy. Banderas joins Mikkelsen, Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and others in an apparently an ever-growing cast of top talent.

While details about the film are being kept under wraps, small glimpses at the sets and actors have allowed fans to wildly speculate as they are wont to do. Based on a fairly recent leak of photos from one of the shooting locations forIndiana Jones 5, it’s even possible that the film will feature at least one flashback scene involvinga digitally de-aged Ford. If that’s the case, it’s not entirely out of the question that Banderas might play a character from Indy’s past, both in present day and during similar scenes.

Banderas is one of those actors who has not only made his mark in Hollywood for decades, but continues to maintain a solid career with no signs of slowing down. Aside from his role in theUnchartedfilm, which recently finished filming, he also secured a role in the recent filmThe Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguardalongside Selma Hayek, Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. That’s not even to mention his classic movies like 1998’sThe Mask of Zorroand the decidedly more family-friendlySpy Kidsmovies. The poor guy evenhad COVID-19 on his 60th birthdaylast year.

There’s no telling howIndiana Jones 5will turn out, and since it’s currently still in production, it looks like guesswork will be all fans have to go by for a while. The franchise has certainly seen its fair share of mixed receptions, particularly withTemple of DoomandKingdom of the Crystal Skull, so it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that the folks behind the new one are taking extra care to do right by both the fans and characters.

It’s a great chance forIndiana Jonesto get a satisfying conclusionas a franchise, and it would be a long-overdue finale. Granted, if it ends up absolutely crushing at the box office, then there’s no way it will end here. So that’s a bit of a catch-22 since it seems the only way for it to properly end is if the movie flops.
