After bringing the franchise to the foundation of the Assassins inAssassin’s Creed Origins, Ubisoft brought the long-running series even further back in time withAssassin’s Creed Odyssey. This title brought players to Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War and mixed in the era’s mythology along the way. This time period is known for its architecture, artwork, and cultural contributions, and one player ran with a memorable artform from this time period to make a tribute toAssassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed Odysseylaunched in 2018and was the 11th major installment in the franchise. The game gives players the choice between two characters, Alexios and Kassandra, casting the unchosen one as a figure known as Deimos. Mosaics as an artform date back to Ancient Mesopotamia and were popularly used throughout both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.

Reddit user dakotadeadeye shared their impressive mosaic of Deimos, a major player inthe plotline ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, with theAssassin’s Creedcommunity. The artwork perfectly captures the look of Alexios, the actual name of Deimos in the game if Kassandra is chosen. From his golden armor to his unique hairstyle, they managed to match the in-game design well. Mosaics usually show off an image made entirely of small stone pieces and dakotadeadeye recreates that look without issue.
Alexios is the canonDeimos in theAssassin’s Creedfranchiseand so the artwork choice is right on the money. The artwork style is perfectly appropriate too considering that throughoutAssassin’s Creed Odysseyplayers run into a number of mosaics. This creation and its numerous individual pieces must have taken a number of hours to complete even on a graphics editor.
Titling this post as Deimos will likely start a debate amongst players ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, though. The choice between Alexios and Kassandra comes at the beginning of the game and always casts the opposite sibling as a major rival in the story’s arc. This freedom within the story was relatively unique for the series at the time and, despite the debates on which character was better, brought a nice change to the franchise.
That being said, the major plot points don’t really vary if a player is Alexios or Kassandra. This limits the actual impact that choice has on the game. Though the character looks different, the game doesn’t offer much else with that choice. Fortunately,Assassin’s Creed Odysseyoffers a number of pivot pointsthat allow players to affect the game more meaningfully. Regardless of player choice, though, Alexios remains the canon Deimos and the artwork by dakotadeadeye is an impressive tribute.
Assassin’s Creed Odysseyis available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
