The co-director ofBatgirlreleased a new behind-the-scenes image showcasing a nice warm moment for the cast and crew. The moment in question was in celebration of Brendan Fraser, who celebrated his birthday in early December.
Batgirlis currently in production, which many fans are happy to see. The new project has an impressive list of talent attached to it as well as great potential for delivering a very solid storyline for the costumed vigilante. Christina Hodson (Bumblebee,The Flash,Birds of Prey) wroteBatgirl, which will finally introduce the fan favouriteBatmancharacter to the DCEU (DC Extended Universe).

The Instagram post from co-director Adil El Arbi sheds some praise and appreciation to Fraser,who will supposedly be playing Fireflyin this upcoming live-action adaptation ofBatgirl. The captioned photo is showing love to Fraser for working on his birthday, showcasing a moment when the crew took the time to make him feel appreciated. A birthday cake is also seen in the video, which looks incredibly delicious.
Firefly would make a compelling villain because he often doesn’t get a lot of shine in DC stories. He’s generally viewed as a B-tier villain, only making appearances in select fewBatmanprojects. This makes him the perfect choice for aBatgirlproject because it will help give both him and the titular hero a chance to stand apart from the Caped Crusader. It will also help DC not kill off or waste a bigger villain that they may be saving for when they figure out how to handle DC movies moving forward.
Batgirlwill also keep the sameCommissioner Gordon in J.K. Simmons, who was also inZack Snyder’s Justice League. This means that this Batgirl exists in the same world as Snyder’s DCEU. It would be a really nice tease to see another member from the Bat family make an appearance or at least hear a reference to the other sidekicks such as Robin or Nightwing. For those who remember, Ben Affleck’s Batman had a display case of Robin’s defaced suit (after his death by Joker) as a reminder to not go soft on supervillains ever again, which resulted in him becoming unhinged.
With the cast and crew appearing happy and everybody working hard (especially lead star Leslie Grace), this project is building hype. Batgirl is long overdue for her own film, as she’s often only introduced in a DC project if Batman is there. Maybe this will spawn a new fanbase for the character and audiences will see new life breathed into her story.
