Battlefield 2042, the latest in the longstandingBattlefieldseries, has been received to a mixed degree by players. While it has gotten many negative reviews for technical issues, it’s clear some players are having fun, if theMichael Bay-esque clips ofBattlefield 2042are any indication.

Much like older titles in the series, one of the major draws ofBattlefield 2042is how much ridiculous stuff players can do with the tools at hand. This includes how much players can get away with when properly handling, or improperly handling, the game’s major vehicles. This includes tanks, which some players are putting to a use they were very much not designed for.

Players inBattlefield 2042are bringing tanks to new heights, specifically up to rooftops. Whilesome players are getting amazing wingsuit kills, others are setting up surprisingly specific deathtraps using these tanks. The method is fairly simple: get a vehicle call-in, then use it to bring in a tank up on a roof. This may seem to be relatively useless at first and a waste of a good vehicle, but there is actually one very specific purpose to it besides good old fashioned fun: camping elevators.

The elevators that many players use to get up to the tops of these rooftops are often called deathtraps, and these tanks make that even more so. A single blast from a tank can take out most people in the elevator in a single blast. It obviously isn’t effective forever, but it sure is fun while it lasts. It’s not super effective at farming XP either, but withBattlefield 2042cracking down on XP farming servers, maybe that’s a good thing for all involved.

Many comments on the videos were somewhat bitter, although not because of the tanks themselves. Rather, they bemoan the lack of impact vehicles often have inBattlefield 2042, pointing out how wingsuits and insertion beacons have taken over meaningful incursion power. Getting16 kills with a jetis fun, but no longer majorly impactful.

Regardless of how much fun a tank on a roof can provide, it may not be enough to salvage theBattlefield 2042experience for many players. As of this article,Battlefield 2042has overwhelmingly negative user reviews. Unless EA can turn things around,Battlefield 2042and its roof tanks may fall by the wayside as a disappointment in the series. Only time will tell for sure.

Battlefield 2042is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
