Even though he’s the one that brings death, the Grim Reaper does more than appear when time is up. He also appears in some great video games. For the most part, the Grim Reaper is someone many fear. He’s the bringer of death and is the last person many may see in their lives, however he also brings witty one-liners and can even be a playable character.

Nevertheless, most of the time, when Death himself appears on the screen, players remember the battle or the encounter well. He can be a formidable foe when battling and is often encased in so much lore that he quickly becomes a fan favorite. Whether he’s a favorite for a good experience or bad, some appearances are undoubtedly memorable. If not a little terrifying.
8Castlevania
Castlevaniais perhaps one of the most famousrepresentations of the Grim Reaper. He has appeared in these gothic horror adventures since the first release in 1986. Throughout his time in the games, he’s served as the one thing stopping the player from getting to wipe out the deadly Dracula.
Typically, he will front as a warning to turn back and not provoke the castle again. He will then be the mini-boss battle before the player faces Dracula. He’s truly a formidable foe throughout the series and is undeniably a tough fight to get into whenever the player is forced to face him.

7Grim Fandango
Ina much lighter scenario toCastlevania, one of the most memorable explorations of the Grim Reaper is through the classic adventure game,Grim Fandango. In this game, players embody Manuel Calavera, a reaper who is working to process the deaths brought to the Afterlife. Such a story explores a terrifying creature in a lighter way, allowing players to embrace this lifestyle rather than fear what he stands for.
It’s a hilarious comedy that brings the kind of story many would expect from a movie. Either way, the story, the puzzles, and the gameplay are all aspects that leave any player largely attached to this fantastic Grim Reaper.

6Peace, Death!
Another game where fans play as the Grim Reaper himself isPeace, Death!. It’s a slower-paced game where the Grim Reaper has to try and impress the boss with their work, so they can be a full-time reaper. It’s almost likePapers Pleasein the sense that the levels get harder and harder and the monotony begins to make the player’s life challenging.

Either way, the player ends up sorting the poor souls into Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory depending on what they’ve done. This gets increasingly challenging to decipher and makes it a relativelychallenging and exciting game to play.

Ultimately, the first time players succumb to whatever is dealing damage, they wake up in a mysterious location that looks nothing like the land they died on. Then they will mean a Grim Reaper who goes by the name of Greg. In typical Conker style, this scenario isn’t the most serious, but it’s still extremely memorable since he gives players some useful information on Lives and staying alive throughout the rest of the game.
4The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Almost taking inspiration fromCastlevania,The Legend of Zeldatook a darker turn with the introduction of the Grim Reaper. He’s a creepy entity that almost looks like a cross between Dracula and the Grim Reaper himself, complete with scythe and all. All this only strengthens the fear that this will be a tough fight.
Instantly both the players and Link are transported to a great battle where fans are forced to fight back against a seemingly indestructible foe.Luckily Link is able to kill him but it’s by no means an easy fight, which is probably what makes it so memorable.

3Maximo: Army Of Zin
Maximois a wonderful game, even if it might have a bit of silliness to it. It’s an older experience that still holds ground today as a fantastic game that many should definitely try out. For those who have, they will fondly remember seeing the Grim Reaper as a friend of protagonist Maximo.

This character was a fan favorite when the original game was released sowhen the sequel,Army of Zin, brought him back into the limelight fans were thrilled. This time, rather than being an NPC, players were able to embody this terrifying but funny individual. Most couldn’t help but feel badass when playing this immortal being.

If ever traveling into the Nine Hells, it’s to be expected that the traveler would find at least one Reaper. Luckily, forDante’s Inferno, players don’t have to wait too long to meet this fabled creature.
It’s a perfect introduction when the player starts by meeting the Grim Reaper and actually ends up battling them before theplayer’s even seen the Nine Hells.This battle, combined with the tutorial and the weapon granted at the end makes it an encounter many will never forget but will also wish they never have to do again.

For the most part, the Grim Reaper looks like a dark figure with a skull face and a scythe. Sometime’s they’re funny, sometimes they’re scary, but they always have these tell-tale signs. This istrue forDragon’s Dogma, but it just seems like the designers decided to take this design one step further. One look at this creature and many will regret they ever went near it. He’s a terrifying character that looks like he’s crawled straight out of a nightmare to wipe the player off the face of the earth.
Filled with moving darkness and a scythe that can kill the player instantly, this battle truly stands the test of time and is easily one of the toughest and most terrifying battles in both the game and perhaps video game history. No one will forget how terrifying this enemy truly was.
