Summary

Izuku Midoriya, with the hero name Deku, is predominantly one of the main characters ofMy Hero Academia. In this world, individuals with quirks either turn out to be a hero or a villain, and it has been the dream of Midoriya to be a hero. Unfortunately, he lacks the main feature that most heroes in theMy Hero Academiaworld have, and that is a quirk.

Midoriya is born without a quirk, and he longs to be a hero, but without a quirk, it is only a dream with zero chances of coming to pass. But an encounter withhis all-time favorite hero, All Might, turns his quirkless life around. Now a recipient of One For All, All Might’s quirk, Midoriya becomes a hero in training, living his dream, and goes by Deku. But having lived for so long without a quirk has a negative impact on Deku now that he has a quirk.

5Naïveté

From the onset, Deku’s naïveté is quite glaring. It was admirable, but too unwise for him to think he could be a hero without having a quirk, given how dangerous villains are. He desires to help others but makes no effort to train himself or become physically stronger since he does not have the superhuman ability that most individuals are born with. Without encountering All Might, there is a chance that Midoriya would not have reached out for strength but would have just spent his days hoping for it.

AsMy Hero Academiaprogresses, he becomes less naive but still sees the good in everyone, even those with no atom of decency in them. He believes he can save everyone in their time of need and, most importantly, be a hero without using lethal force or methods. His naïveté stops him from achieving so much, but perhaps he will grow out of it someday.

4At Times, Poor Decision-Making

One thing viewers may notice about Deku that could tick them off is his inability to make wise decisions. Most times, Deku rushes into a fight without thinking, strategizing, or listening to his mates or superiors when they tell him not to. He rushes in because he wants to save people and neutralize the threat.

In as much as it is admirable and what a hero should do, Deku needs to plan before he attacks. It may not be wrong to think thatif Deku were not a main character, he would probably have died in the hands of a dangerous villain because he went headfirst into a fight with someone stronger than him, as he did with Stain and Overhaul. Thankfully, he has good friends who want to be heroes as much as him and even stronger teachers and pro-heroes around him.

3His Emotions Get The Better Of Him

Deku cries so much at the beginning of theMy Hero Academiaseries that he gets a cry-baby tag. Seeing his emotional side early in the anime may not have been a good look for him as a main character, but thankfully, as the anime progresses, he is not as emotional and does not cry as much. Unfortunately, the tag is there and might stay for life.

Most times, Deku’s reasons for crying are valid, and individuals need to let out their feelings, but some situations do not warrant tears as it really does not solve the problem at hand.

2His Body Is Not “The Ideal” Vessel For One For All

One For All is a powerful quirk that hasthe quirks of seven out of nine individuals. With so much in it, One For All is best suited for people with the physical build for it, like All Might. Deku’s body is not physically strong enough to contain One For All, and he had to train his body for ten months before he got the quirk.

Even at that, his body is still not strong enough to use One for All at its highest capacity. Using the slightest amount causes his limbs and bones to break, and if he is not careful, he will break all his bones and die. Deku has so much power to unleash that will undoubtedly make him one of the strongest heroes or even the strongest hero in theMy Hero Academiaworld, but his body stands against him doing that.

1Recklessness

When it comes to using One For All, Deku can be quite reckless and rash. One For Allis extremely strong, and Deku does not yet have the physical facilities needed to use this quirk at its full potential. He has lived quirkless most of his life and wants to save as many lives as possible with his new ability.

But sometimes, it may seem as though he forgets that One For All can actually kill him if he does not take it easy. He has broken his limbs and bones but still rushes into another fighting scene where he uses more than his body can handle and lands himself in the hospital. He wants to be a hero and tries to be heroic at the slightest chance he gets, but most of the time, he is just being reckless and does not care about his well-being.
