Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most beloved anime characters of all time. Starting his journey as a young boy with ambitious dreams, Naruto went on to achieve everything that he wanted and became the Seventh Hokage by the end of the story. InBoruto, Naruto enjoyed the role of being Hokage for quite a long time.

However, death loomed over him from the very first chapter of the story, where Kawaki exclaimed that he would send Boruto to the same placewhere he sent the Seventh Hokage. This immediately led fans to theorize about Naruto’s potential death, however, it wasn’t until years that hints were given about what this truly meant. Now,Borutohas reached a point where fans truly knowwhat Naruto’s death actually means.
Naruto As The Seventh Hokage
Naruto became the Seventh Hokage years after the conclusion of theFourth Great Ninja War. He rose to this position and immediately started working towards world peace. For the vast majority of his reign, peace was maintained throughout the village and the shinobi world. Naruto was also widely considered to be the strongest shinobi to ever live. When the threat of the Otsutsuki was made known, Naruto not only stepped up as the protector of the village, but the entire shinobi world. Momoshiki and Kinshiki targeted him and he was able to defeat them, thanks to the incredible powers that he had up his sleeve and, of course, the help of Sasuke Uchihaas well.
However, shortly into his time as Hokage in the Boruto series, the presence of a more sinister being, Isshiki Otsutsuki, was made known. Isshiki proved to be far stronger than anyone Naruto had ever faced, including the likes of Kaguya. As such, taking him down proved to be a real challenge and both Naruto and Sasuke faced defeat to him in theBorutoseries. In their second meeting, however, Naruto tapped into the power of Baryon Mode and managed to defeat him. However, this weakened him severely as both his Tailed Beast and Six Paths powers were lost. This is exactly what opened up the room for Naruto to “die.”

What Happened To Naruto Uzumaki?
Fans of Naruto Uzumaki have been on the edge for years thinking about his death. They can rest assured as it has been confirmed that Naruto Uzumaki is well and truly alive, however, to the rest of the Boruto world, he is officially dead. Naruto was confronted by Kawaki in his own home and the latter revealed his plans to root out all the Otsutsuki and kill them one by one.

Kawaki intends to make the world a safe place where the 7th Hokage, who he loves and cherishes, lives without any fear for his life. However, to do this, Kawaki would also need to get rid of Boruto Uzumaki, who is a vessel for Momoshiki at this moment. Killing all the Otsutsuki also means that Kawaki needsto kill his own brother, Boruto. Of course, Naruto would not simply stand by and watch him attempt to kill Boruto, and to keep him from interfering, Kawaki sent him and his wife, Hinata Hyuga, to a different dimension and seal them there.
Later on, Kawaki was helped by Eida, and using her Shinjutsu powers, she was able to rewrite history itself and turn the lives of both Boruto and Kawaki upside down. Now, Kawaki is seen as the son of the 7th Hokage while Boruto has taken the place of Kawaki and is seen as an orphan boy who Naruto treated with kindness but was repaid with treachery. Kawaki also went on to tell Eids to make it so that Boruto Uzumaki is declared as the killer of the 7th Hokage, Naruto. As such, across the entire shinobi world, Naruto Uzumaki is now declared to be dead. In reality, however, Naruto is well and truly alive and in the other world of Daikokuten. In this world, time does not flow, meaning Naruto will not age a single day and will not even feel hungry.

Will Naruto Return?
It goes without saying that Naruto Uzumaki will return later on in the story. After all, he is an iconic character who fans all over the world love. However, that is not going to happen anytime soon. The story of Boruto is now heading towards its timeskip. This means that Boruto Uzumaki and all the other next-generation ninjas will soon start training to get stronger for a period of around 4 years. That also means that Naruto Uzumaki will remain dead for 4 years and the proof of that lies in the prologue ofBoruto, where Kawaki mentions that Naruto is still in the same place where he sealed him away.
However, he won’t remain there forever. As Boruto and Kawaki conclude their fight, it is highly likely that Naruto Uzumaki will return shortly after. This could also prove to be a turning point for Naruto’s character as he could have trained in the world of Daikokuten and grown several times stronger. The fact that time does not flow in that dimension means that Naruto would have had millions of years, if not more, to train and attain great power. All in all, this could end up proving great for his character as well.
