For months, rumors have been swirling that aChrono Crossremaster was in the works, and at the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, it was finally confirmed. Nintendo officially announcedChrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Editionfor the Nintendo Switchwith an April 7 release date. At the time, there was no mention of other versions of the game, but it’s since been confirmed that theChrono Crossremaster is indeed coming to more than just the Switch.
Square Enix has since clarified thatChrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Editionis coming to platforms other than the Nintendo Switch come launch day on April 7. More specifically, fans can look forward to theChrono Crossremasterdropping for PC on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One that day, though there doesn’t seem to be native PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game in the works at this time.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Editionwill be the same across all platforms, giving fans the chance to relive the JRPG classic with some modern enhancements. The visuals have been given an upgrade, plus there are new quality of life improvements that will let players experience the game their way. Like otherremasters of classic Square Enix JRPGs, this includes the ability to completely turn off battles if players would rather just focus on the story. The soundtrack has also been improved, and this version of the game will even come with some extra content.
HardcoreChrono Crossfanswill know aboutRadical Dreamers, a text-based adventure that predated the actual game by a few years but is still connected to it narratively. TheChrono Crossremaster comes withRadical Dreamersin tow, so players will now get the full experience. Previously,Radical Dreamerswas only available in Japan.
TheChrono Crossremaster isn’t thefull-blownChrono Crossremakethat was rumored to be in development, but it’s certainly better than nothing. Before this, the only way to playChrono Crosswas on a PS1 or on the PS3 through the PlayStation Store. And with Sony once threatening totake down the PS3 PlayStation Store, there was always the risk of the game becoming significantly more difficult for fans to get their hands on. With the release ofChrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, that should no longer be a worry.
With theChrono Crossremaster release date just a couple of months away, fans should learn more about the game sooner rather than later.
