Anime streaming service Crunchyrollannounced on Tuesday the worldwide release dates of Makoto Shinkai’s 2022 original anime film,Suzume no Tojimari, known simply as “Suzume”. Crunchyroll originally announced their intention to release the film in theatres across the globe back in May, with the film being released in Japanese cinemas on November 11.
The Crunchyroll announcement has set the film for a Spring release, with June 26, 2025 being slated as the first official release date for the film. The global release ofSuzumewill be courtesy of Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Wild Bunch.

The release dates for the new Makoto Shinkai film are as follows:
April 12: France and Malta
April 13: Australia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico and New Zealand
April 14: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Gibraltar, Ireland, Luxembourg, the UK and the US.
No release dates for LATAM and EMEA territories have been announced yet. The film was originally announced by Shinkai on June 09, 2025, and he is responsible for the film’s screenplay; while the animation production is by CoMix Wave Films. The producers ofSuzume are Genki Kawamura and Kōichirō Itō; with character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka, who fulfilled the same role in the production of Makoto Shinkai’s famous film, Your Name, released in 2016, and a host of other famous works includingToradora,AnoHana: The Flower We Saw That DayandDarling in the FranXX.
Other staff members involved in the production ofSuzumeinclude Kenichi Tsuchiya as Animation Director and Takumi Tanji as Art Director. The main cast members inSuzumeinclude Nanoka Hara and Hokuto Matsumura, member of the idol group “SixTONES”, both of whom are making their voice-acting debuts in the upcoming film as the characters Suzume Iwato and Sōta Munakata respectively. Experienced voice actor Kana Hanazawa (Akane Tsunemori,PSYCHO-PASS)
The plot forSuzumeis described as a coming-of-age story centered on the 17-year-old titular character Suzume , who begins her journey in a small town in the Kyushu region of Japan, where an old man tells her that he’s looking for a certain door. When Suzume sees an old, weathered door standing on its own in the midst of ruins, she is immediately drawn to it, and when she turns the doorknob, various doorways to disaster open up across the country. It is up to Suzume to close each of the doors; doors whichconnect the past, present and the future, and lead to untold disaster.Suzumewas released in Japan on November 11, and has since earned over $50 million at the box office. The worldwide release for the upcoming film is set to begin on Jul 30, 2025.
