For a few months now, Marvel fans have known that Daniel Craig had a cameo planned inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, although judging from the actor’s reaction to that very question, it truly is impossible to tell how realistic that idea was in the first place.
According to a piece of early concept art from theDoctor Strangesequel, Craig’sMCUdebut would have come playing Thor’s half-brother Balder the Brave who had a spot booked on the film’s short-lived Illuminati council. That appearance was apparently ultimately scrapped due to scheduling complications that arose during the COVID pandemic, hence why James Bond never ended up crossing into the Multiverse.

When yet again face with the question if he was going to show upDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Craig simply laughs, takes a sip from his mug and says he’d “take any job if the hours were good […] sure, absolutely,” before the host eventually gives up on the matter. That specific moment comes at the 34:34 mark, though the whole interview is worth watching.
Naturally, the main subjects on the table wereGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, now available on Netflix,as well as James Bond, and while the actor admitted he’s not really keeping up with the latest news on who his replacement will be, he admits he’ll have fun watching his successor in the future. Overall, Craig’s stance on Marvel doesn’t appear to have changed, as he’s always retained an aura of plausible deniability on that cameo, calling such rumors “lockdown craziness” in other interviews.
ConsideringDoctor Strange 2only came out this year, it seems reasonable the Craig would continue to deny these rumors up to this stage, as it’s the type of info Marvel fans don’t eventually see confirmed until much longer. In any case, there’s also the chance that theBalder the Brave concept art just used Craig’slikeness as a placeholder, even before Marvel Studios’ higher-ups gave the green light for it.
Regardless of that, even if Daniel Craig is yet to suit up as a Marvel hero, he sure is open to accepting a role somewhere down the line, and that might bode better for his fans, as anyDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesscameo would have seen him quickly killed off by the Scarlet Witch forone of Marvel’s worst moments in 2022.
