Dark Souls 3has some pretty notable NPCs, but none are as recognizable as the Catarina armor-clad warrior,Siegward. AnyDark Soulsfan will immediately recognize the “onion knight” as he gets stuck in familiar situations to the original game.

His questline is one of the most important in the game, and forgetting to do it will result in players missing out on some great items and the entire Catarina Armor Set. Siegward is also one of the most helpful NPCs and will assist players in multiple fights (one of them being Yhorm the Giant). Here’s a quick guide to completing his quest.
Meet Siegward & Fight A Demon
Players will first meet Siegward as they make their way out of theUndead Settlement. He arrives on an elevator coming from where the Road of Sacrifices (how he missed the Boreal Knight is a mystery), and will be confused about the elevator and why he can’t seem to raise it. Players need to lower the elevator Siegward entered on to get the other platform to appear.
Ride the elevator up and then ride it back down. Jump onto the ledge about halfway down where Siegward’s dialogue of “Hmm” plays, and walk outside to find Siegward on the ledge and a Fire Demon below. Run down and fight the demon. Siegward will assist the players until it is defeating or he is killed. Once the demon is killed, talk to Siegward to get theSiegbrau and the Toast and Sleep emotes.
Stuck In The Well
After players progress further in the game, they will find theCathedral of the Deep.Siegward will be stuck in the well right outside the cathedral doors, but players won’t be able to talk to him right away. Players will first need to progress through the area and open both sets of giant doors. The first is easy, but the second is opened by progressing through the area to the other side of the giants.

Take the elevator up and open the door. Once the door is open, players can talk to Siegward in the well and learn that his armor was stolen. Head back to where the second door is and go down the stairs to the right. Patches will be there, either wearing Siegward’s armor or his own.Players can either kill Patches for the armor or buy it from him.Return the armor to Siegward after obtaining it.
Making Soup
The next stop on Siegward’s journey isIrithyll of the Boreal Valley. Players will run into him on the natural progression route for the area just past the sewers, where he will be making some much-needed Estus Soup that players can enjoy. He will toast with the player, and then fall asleep just like he did after theFire Demonfight.
Locked Up
Siegward has found himself in another sticky situation. He has now gotten locked in a cell in the Irithyll Dungeon, and the player needs to bust him out. First, find the room with the two chests. One of these has theOld Cell Keythat is needed to free Siegward. After collecting the key, players will need to make their way to the roof of the old church, where they will fight a hostile NPC that will dropLogan’s Scroll.

While on the roof, players will be able to spot an open window in the wall. Jump into the window, and follow the path to Siegward’s cell to free him. He will award players with aTitanite Slab.Players can also grab the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring from the cell.
Fighting Yhorm The Giant
After freeing Siegward, players can make their way down to the boss fight againstYhorm the Giant. A special cutscene will play where Siegward enters the boss room with the player, already bearing the Storm Ruler in his possession.
After defeating Yhorm, players can talk to Siegward one final time (and do one final toast). Players can then walk to the bonfire and watch as Siegward collapses. He is dead, but not forgotten.His armor set will be laying on the ground for players to pick up along with another Storm Ruler.
