One brave gamer attempted to complete an Impossible run in theDead Spaceremake but suffered a heartbreaking defeat instead.Dead Spaceis a sci-fi horror video gameoriginally developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts in 2008. Since its original release,Dead Spacebecame a completed trilogy, had several spin-offs, and most recently received a remake for modern platforms.
TheDead Spacestoryline has players following the protagonist, Isaac Clark. Isaac is an engineer who is searching for his girlfriend and a way to escape an abandoned ship that contains the mutatedundead enemies inDead Spacecalled Necromorphs. The game features Isaac overcoming impossible tasks to survive, and one of the difficulty options inDead Spacereflects the struggle that Isaac experiences throughout the game. The Impossible difficulty setting is accurately titled and is suggested for only the most dedicated of players.

On the Impossibledifficulty setting inDead Spaceplayers will essentially have the same difficulty expectations from the Hard difficulty but with a few exceptions: autosaves are disabled, there is only one save slot, and if the player dies at any point during the playthrough, they have to restart or continue the rest of the game in Hard mode. User Legal-legend69 found out how complicated this challenge can be the hard way. In a post uploaded to Reddit, the user shared their heartbreaking end to theirDead Spaceimpossible run. The post includes a video that shows the player traversing through space before they collide with one of the objects and are decapitated and dismembered due to an environmental kill.
Fellow Redditors shared their reaction to the post in the comments. Several users commented on how frustrating the challenge is to complete due to environmental kills and added that those types of kills should not be included in the perma-death rule. Another user commented about a helpful tip for players during their run, stating that if something similar occurs while playingDead Space, players can quickly pause and quit before the game registers the death.
Some players may consider that tip cheating, but others argue that the ridiculousness of environmental kills and questionable deaths due to glitches is a valid enough reason to use the advice. Either way, the impossible difficulty definitely lives up to its name, and the interest in horror games seems to be expanding with remakes of classic titles likeDead SpaceandThe Last of Us Part 1, as well asnew horror titles such asThe Callisto Protocol.
Dead Spaceis out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
