Following its big theatrical release, Denis Villeneuve’sDunehas been making waves all throughout the industry, as it was immediately met with overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans and critics. But on top of the film’s success, the director believes thatDune: Part Twowill be even more amazing.
Dunewas intended to be split into two parts, a condition Villeneuve set because of the hefty material in the book. However, audiences had to wait untilthe box office success ofDuneprompted Legendary to officially greenlight the second chapter.

In a new interview with Empire, Villeneuve discussed everything fromDunedetails to the upcomingDunesequel that is set to start filmingin July 2022. WhileDuneleft open-ended, it also set up numerous storylines and characters that have many fans, including Villeneuve himself, too excited. “Part Two will be such a cinematic treat,” Villeneuve claimed. “Making Part One for me was just to [set] the table, you know? And to explain the cultures and the background of all the different planets and civilizations. And then to have that chance, now that everything is set, Part Two will be just an amazing playground. It will be so fun to do.”
Villeneuve’s comments come shortly after he already teased in a recent interview thatDune: Part Twowill have a greater amount of funand give off a more cinematic feel. While not much is known about the plot, what is known, other than Zendaya’s Chani having a bigger role, is that composer Hans Zimmer has already come up with about 90 minutes of new music forDune: Part Twoto help with Villeneuve’s writing process, as the director has already been working hard on penning the script. “I’m writing [Part Two] now, and I feel like I’m eight years old again,” Villeneuve said back in August.
Even if this will be Villeneuve’s first time directing a sequel to one of his own films, the award-winning filmmaker will surely create something truly spectacular and memorable that would most definitely make Herbert proud. WhileDuneclocked in at a whopping 2 hours and 35 minutes, the film was just beginning to scratch the surface and really explore more of the desert planet of Arrakis. Now having spent the majority of the runtime worldbuilding and making the audiences invested in many of the characters and storylines,Dune: Part Twowill no doubt be one thrilling and emotional rollercoaster.
WhileDuneis no longer streaming on HBO MAX (after leaving the platform on November 22nd following its month-long stream) fans can still catch the sci-fi epic in theatres while preparing for the highly anticipated sequel.Dunestars Timothée Chalametas Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban.
