Bungie has confirmed that the voice of Lance Reddick, who plays the role of Commander Zavala inDestiny 2, will continue to be featured in future content. The passing of Lance Reddick shocked theDestiny 2community this past week. Zavala has been a prominent face in theDestinyfranchise going back to the original game’s release in 2014. What’s ingratiated Zavala as one ofDestinyplayers' most loved NPCs isn’t necessarily the character, though, but Reddick as the man behind the voice. He’sshared kind messages withDestiny 2players, embraced players' memes, and done so much to makeDestiny 2a special game.

And while Zavala isn’t going anywhere for the time being – he’s stillstanding within the Tower overlooking the Last City–Destiny 2players will be pleased to hear that they haven’t heard the last of Reddick’s voice in the game. Bungie has confirmed as of its latest This Week at Bungie blog that Reddick voiced further unreleased content that’s still planned forDestiny 2’s future. Zavala will return in futureDestiny 2content.

How Bungie will use Zavala inDestiny 2going forward is likely to change, in small and large ways. Bungie may make small changes to be more respectful of Reddick’s memory. It may make large changes in order to ensure Zavala, and what voicework of Reddick’s is left, is best brought to an appropriate conclusion. It can’t be an easy task, but it’s one Bungie developers will certainly embrace.

Destiny 2is expected to have one more major expansion, The Final Shape, to be released in 2024. It’s unclear whatZavala’s role in The Final Shape expansionwould be, or inDestiny 2’s remaining seasonal content. How much content Reddick has recorded voicework for is unclear. But it’s safe to assume Bungie will ensure Reddick and Zavala get the sendoff they deserve.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
