AsDestiny 2’s narrative takes its final steps in the build to the release of Lightfall, YouTuber MyNameIsByf has given his thoughts on where the current season’s narrative is heading and the potential danger the Last City may actually be in. Byf is among theDestinycommunity’s more notable content creators, giving players in-depth looks at the universe’s extensive lore since the release of the first game in 2014. He has also been keen to share his theories about where the narrative is heading, with his latest pointing to the possible involvement of the last surviving member of theHive’s Osmium Dynasty.

The current season ofDestiny 2, titled Season of the Seraph, sees guardians work alongside Ana and Elsie Bray, the AI of their grandfather Clovis, Mara Sov, and Osiris as they attempt to reform and reawaken the AI warmind, Rasputin. However, The Witness' forces are keen to claim Rasputin’s wealth of knowledge and dormant arsenal to use against the Last City as The Witness continues its march toward the Solar System with its Black Fleet. The season will effectively set the stage for what is to come in Lightfall, with hints that Rasputin may contain knowledge of a secret city on Neptune untouched by the Collapse and subsequent battles between the Light and Darkness.

Aside from the characters aiding guardians in Season of the Seraph, the influence of theHive god of war Xivu Arathhas been made clear over the course of the season’s narrative. Byf has spoken about her influence in other videos, pointing out the presence of the Cryptoliths and Wrathborn from the Season of the Hunt inside Season of the Seraph’s seasonal activity. However, his latest video suggests Xivu Arath could be setting the stage for the Last City to suffer a similar fate to the Cabal’s homeworld of Torobatl before Empress Caiatl’s arrival on Earth in Season of the Chosen.

Byf calls back to the lore book Empress from Season of the Chosen, which recallsEmpress Caiatl’s life from her youth all the way to the fall of Torobatl at the hands of Xivu Arath. The planet’s downfall was part of a grand trap originally laid by Xivu’s sister, Savathun, who infected the mind of one of Caiatl’s closest friends and advisers, Umun’arath. Caiatl was ultimately tricked into killing a fully-possessed Umun as part of an elaborate ritual to open a portal, allowing Xivu Arath’s forces to invade Torobatl and force Caiatl to flee her homeworld with any survivors.

It is this elaborate ritual Byf theorizes Xivu Arath may be working to replicate in Season of the Seraph to bring down the full might of her forces on the Last City. His theory isn’t unfounded, either, as it has been suggested in other pieces of lore the Last City could fall toThe Witness' forces as it looks to end its ancient conflict with The Traveler. While it remains to be seen if these events end up playing out in game, players wouldn’t be wrong in heeding the warnings of one of theDestinycommunity’s most knowledgeable lore content creators.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
