As selfish of a character asDestiny 2’s narrative has shown Clovis Bray to be, one player appears to have taken his side after his true motives came to light in Season of the Seraph. The man behind BrayTech, Rasputin, and the Exos isn’t the first character in the universe to be driven by self-interest, even among players' allies, though Bray has not been shy about sharing his disdain for guardians and even The Traveler, itself. It has been the same duringSeason of the Seraph, despite having to aid the Vanguard directly, but his selfish motivations have hit a cord with at least one player.
Season of the Seraph is the final season for year 5 ofDestiny 2and will ultimately set the stage for the events of the upcoming expansion,Lightfall. Players must work alongside Clovis, Ana, and Elsie Bray, Mara Sov, and Osiris to reform the AI Rasputin after being dormant since The Witness' Black Fleet arrived in Season of Arrivals. Players must also stop attempts by The Witness' forces to claim Rasputin’s dormant arsenal and wealth of data to use against The Last City and uncover information that could shape the future of the galaxy.

Week 4 of the season saw players finally restore Rasputin, who can directly communicate with players for the first time, and exposeClovis Bray’s intent to upload and take control of Rasputin systems to become a “machine-god,” himself. It resulted in a confrontation between Ana and Clovis Bray, with Clovis claiming he has humanity’s interest at heart and questioning the motives of The Traveler, especially in the wake ofThe Witch Queen. Clovis' motives appeared to hit a chord with Reddit user EyeInTheSky127, who felt Clovis' stance on the Traveler isn’t wrong.
Since the events ofThe Witch Queen, Bungie’s narrative team has introduced several elements meant to call The Traveler’s motives into question. Players could argue the biggest among these was The Traveler giftingSavathunthe Light and making no effort to defend itself when Savathun attempted to seal it off inside her thrown world. Bungie also offered additional details on how quickly The Traveler abandoned the Eliksni, the other races it uplifted and ultimately abandoned to The Witness, and how it seemingly waited to the last possible moment to save humanity from extinction during the Collapse.
The aforementioned plot details about The Traveler’s history make it understandable why EyeInTheSky127 would side with Clovis, however, it can also be argued Clovis is not much better. Clovis' own history of usingThe Witness' power was on full display in the Deep Stone Crypt raid, showing he has no problem tapping into dangerous powers if it advances his own goal. It now becomes a question of who players can actually trust and, given Clovis' motives, if he will attempt to bring them to fruition before the end of the season.
