Season of the Deep adds a new exotic focusing feature with the Cryptarch, butDestiny 2players have discovered a pretty frustrating issue with it. This week saw thearrival of the anticipated Season 21 inDestiny 2, and as promised by Bungie, the season adds a ton of new stuff for players to dig into. Not only is there a new story and seasonal events to check out, but Season of the Deep brought with it a ton of tweaks, changes, and updates to many core components of the game.
As previously detailed, Bungie is using this new season to introduce asubstantial amount of tweaks toDestiny 2subclasses, balancing weapons, and buffing many long forgotten exotic gear as well. For the first time in franchise history, Bungie has added a new fishing activity into the game, giving players a way to take a break from high action and tension filled moments. In addition, Bungie is continuing to expand its engram focusing system with this season, finally giving players a way to decrypt exotics with Rahool.

Similar to other vendors, players can now take their exotic engrams to Cryptarch Rahool at the Tower and essentially focus it into something they may not have. While the mechanic sounds great on paper,Destiny 2players have started to run into issues with it already. Over on Reddit, multiple posts have started to appear with users who attempted to focus their valuable and rare exotic engrams with Rahool, only to receive armor that has hilariously poor statistics.
One player named Hunteractive posted a screenshot of theirCyrtarachne’s Facade Lightfall exotic helmthat was focused at Rahool with a very poor 55 overall. Another named Rylein focused a Star Eater Scales exotic chest piece which had a 59 overall. Considering how rare exotic engrams are as well as the resources needed to focus them at all, many players are upset at these low roll items. Many comments agree that this feature isn’t worth it at the moment and have called upon Bungie to set some sort of minimum value that makes it worth it.
Interestingly enough, there were a few players who confirmed that using this Exotic Focusing System isn’t always bad as some examples of received gear came in at 64 and 65 overall rolls, so there is definitely some luck involved. However, with the high cost of focusing exotic gear, many are questioning if the gamble is even worth it at all.
For now, Bungie has yet to comment on this new exotic focusing feature and whether or not the system is working as intended. It’s not unthinkable to assume Bungie could take another look at this feature however, as the studio has demonstrated time after time that it is more than willing to run with community feedback, especially following the launch of theLightfall expansion when Cabal Thresher ships were causing all sorts of issuesfor players.
