Destiny 2players can expect to have their progress reset prior to the release of the newest update, which had brought a bug that removed Triumphs from many characters. The update, in addition to introducing some tweaks, was meant to streamline the current gear progression by removing Blue Engrams for late-game players. This change comes as other mechanics such as Energy Affinity are being revised in the upcomingDestiny 2expansion,Lightfall.
Destiny’sgear progression has always been tied to obtaining higher-level gear by way of random drops from much more difficult content. By the time players reach the soft cap, their inventories are more often than not filled with tons of redundant gear. Blue Engrams in particular can fill up an inventory when one might needpowerful gear such asDestiny 2exoticsto bump up Power Levels further. Constantly having to manage Blue Engrams is a wrinkle in the game’s gear progression that can be tedious after doing it every season.

On this week’s reset,Destiny 2’snewest patch rolled out in the morning and subsequentlyremoved many players’ Triumphsand other previously obtained Titles. Once word got to Bungie, the game was brought offline to investigate the issue. The official Twitter accounts forDestiny 2reported that the bug was being investigated, and a fix was assuredly on the way. At 2:51 PM, the Bungie Help Twitter account announced that the fix was still being tested and that player accounts would be rolled back prior to the patch’s release.
What this will mean forDestiny 2players is that anything they’ve done during the day after the patch was released will be undone when the fix finally arrives. This will no doubt be frustrating for any player that got into the game before Bungie took the game offline for a fix. Having progress such asCatalyst unlocks and any season pass progressreset will irk some ofDestiny’sdedicated players.
Bungie’s quickness in fixing major glitches is to be admired, even if it’s at the cost of some people’s progress. Hopefully, no other issues will arise when the fix finally arrives to finally remove Blue Engrams from the inventories of endgame players everywhere. Along withother changes that are coming with Lightfall, the gear progression inDestiny 2should be streamlined once all these changes are finally put in the game.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
