6Midnight In Paris (2011)

A movie that uses an enchanted setting along with some interesting use of magical realism,Midnight In Pariscould be in its own interdimensional ride. There’s some interesting fan theory fodder, but the real story here is a romantic comedy and the drama comes from within.

5Southpaw (2015)

This is more than just a sports story, and it doesn’t really use the much-loved underdog trope either, which are some of the reasons this movie didn’t get the attention it deserved. The marketing department didn’t know how to handle the publicity with the story being as much about violence and addiction as boxing, and the response from critics to the movie overall was mixed.

Rachel McAdams plays Maureen Hope, the main character’s wife, and it’s her untimely deaththat sets the events of the film in motion. Kurt Sutter, the screenwriter, originally intended Eminem to fill the role of the main character because the events of the movie were inspired by certain events in the rapper’s life.

What would it be like to be married to someone with a superpower? Not something cool like advanced healing powers or the ability to fly, but something weird and arbitrary that can’t really be controlled. It sounds like the premise of an anime series, but this is also one way to describe the plot ofThe Time Traveler’s Wife.
