Dragon Ball FighterZhas been hailed for its deep and rewarding battle system and is often considered one of - if not the -bestDragon Ball Zfighting games of all time. With that in mind, it is no surprise that the game has just hit an impressive milestone: 5 million units sold.
Bandai Namco shared the information in a tweet this morning, clearly proud of the accomplishment. In the tweet, it emphasizes how far players and the game have come since its launch and takes extra care to attributeDragon Ball FighterZ' success to its loyal player base above all else.

This 5 million figure is worldwide and includes sales on all consoles including PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. This is particularly impressive consideringDragon Ball FighterZdoesn’t offer crossplayof any kind to promote players buying it on separate consoles. This milestone puts it in line with the best of the best in terms ofDBZgames, rivaling evenDragon Ball Xenoverse 2.
Dragon Ball FighterZhas grown significantly since its release back in January of 2018. The game has added numerous characters over the course of the last two years, including powerhouses like Vegito Blue, Fused Zamasu, and most recently,Ultra Instinct Goku. Part of what sets this game apart from otherDragon Ball Zgames is that it really takes itself seriously as a hardcore fighting game. Many previousDBZgames were enjoyable but lacked the depth and systems needed to truly stake a claim as a fighting game, and that is not a problem thatFighterZhas.
What’s more, the unique animation style ofDragon Ball FighterZmakes combat seem clean and precise while still invoking the nostalgia that comes alongside theDragon Ballfranchise. It is also one of the fewDBZgames so far to really delve into the content ofDragon Ball Super, which no doubt aids in its popularity. WithFighterZ’s season 3in full swing and yet more characters being added to the roster, these numbers will no doubt continue to grow as players find a character which works well for them.
As universally beloved asDragon Ball Zis in general,Dragon Ball Zgamestend to occupy a somewhat niche market. As such, it isn’t often that aDBZgame breaches 5 million units sold, making this a noteworthy accomplishment. It’s also worth noting thatDragon Ball FighterZis only in its second year, meaning there is probably a lot more life left in the game.
Dragon Ball FighterZis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
