Everyone is doing their best to get through these strange times andAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscouldn’t have released at a better time to give people a good distraction. Apparently, even celebrities are finding comfort and entertainment in the quirky game about building towns for anthropomorphic animals. After a player advertised their great turnip prices online, they were surprised to have Mr. Frodo Baggins himself, Elijah Wood, respond and ask for an invite to their island.
At their personal island getaways,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers are able to connect with friends to show off their creations, share items online, and, most importantly, play the stalk market. Every week, players buy turnips at a low price then do everything they can to sell high. If Timmy and Tommy are feeling generous and are buying turnips at a high price, players often let others know so they can benefit from their good luck. One of thebest ways to get turnip pricesis to head to the Turnip Exchange, but reaching out on social media is another option.

One such player did just that, posting their turnip prices through Twitter. Much to their shock and delight, Elijah Wood reached out to them, asking if he could unload his turnips at their island. Twitter user jessa (@directedbyrian) wasted little time in responding with an emphatic, “OF COURSE YOU CAN.” They sent Mr. Wood their Dodo Code and he arrived at their island soon after. While there, jessa documented the visit with screenshots, where her celebrity guest hung out, posed for pictures, complimented their island, and was a real delight.
It may be due to this unique situation the world is going through or the fact a proper entry in the series hadn’t released in eight years, but the latestAnimal Crossingtitle has become immensely popular. So much so that it is now one of thefastest-selling Nintendo games ever. Everyone’s favorite animals are back and looking better than ever. There are also myriad new mechanics and plenty of new furniture to collect, so old and new players alike are enjoying running their islands. They like to show off their efforts as well, and there are plenty of great examples online ofamazing islands to inspire creativityin others.
The game released a little over a month ago, but there have already been plenty of events for players to engage in, including an arguably ill-timed Bunny Day celebration that had islands swarming with eggs. The newest event to hit the shores is Nature Day, which is the game’s version of Earth Day, where residents are encouraged to appreciate the environment. It brings back two familiar, furry faces to the island for regular visits: Redd and Leif. Redd will sell players art that can be displayed in Blathers' museum, which gets a new wing, and Leif will sell players all types of plants, including newly added shrubs. Possibly most exciting, Leif provides players with a newHedge DIY recipethat helps add another layer of ambiance to the island.
