The originalGod of Wartrilogy provided some of the best hack and slash action combat available on PlayStation consoles, spanning from 2005 to 2010. Alongside those games were otherGod of Warreleases for PSP includingGod of War: Chains of OlympusandGod of War: Ghost of Sparta. There are 13 total games in the series including collections and remasters, but no collection except for theGod of War Sagacontainsthe entireGod of Warfranchise. So when a fake trailer dropped that revealed a mysteriousGod of War: Definitive Edition, fans were excited but sufficiently fooled.

As of now, the onlyGod of Wargame to be announced for the PS5 is the upcoming sequel to the 2018God of War, referred to by fans asGod of WarRagnarok. The game is poised to be a hit for Santa Monica Studio afterGod of Warbecame one of themost-downloaded PS4 games of 2018. The end of the fake trailer showed some PS5 box art for the potentialGod of War: Definitive Edition, and some fans immediately thought a collection might be coming to PS5.

The fake trailer has racked up over 600,000 views on YouTube, and judging by its like to dislike ratio fans were at least impressed with the creator’s effort. Though it features some stellar visuals, the trailer is actually cleverly edited pieces of aGod of War: Ascensiontrailer titled “From Ashes” that ran during the 2013 Super Bowl. The “From Ashes” trailer has itself garnered over 14 million views on YouTube. Here are both trailers for comparison.

The channel that posted the video is fake, but it certainly looks the part. From the PlayStation logo to the game credits and website links in the video description, the channel nails the feel of what an actualGod of War: Definitive Editiontrailer might look like. Another video with over 600,000 views is an apparent trailer forThe Last of Us: Homecoming, a fake third game in the series. There is noThe Last of Us: Homecoming, butThe Last of Usis getting its own HBO TV series starringThe Mandalorianactor Pedro Pascal.

While it’s disappointing thisGod of War: Definitive Editionis fake, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that olderGod of Wargames could come to the PS5. The originalGod of Wartrilogy was remastered for the PS3 by Bluepoint Games, the same developers responsible for the recentDemon’s Soulsremakefor PS5. Whether Bluepoint Games would even consider this massive undertaking is unknown, but there are plenty of other developers that could rise to the challenge. PS5 owners can still enjoy PS4 titlesGod of WarandGod of War 3Remasteredvia backwards compatibility, and that is something real to get excited about.
