However, a job listing on Santa Monica’s careers page suggests that there is more to this than meets the eye.

According to the listing for a “Senior Combat Designer (Hero),” Santa Monica Studio is looking for a candidate who is well-versed in “hero combat systems, mechanics, and enemies in one or more 3rd person melee action RPGs.” Additionally, the Preferred Experience section also states that a candidate having prior experience with the combat, mechanics, and enemies of the 2018God of WarandGod of War Ragnarokwill be favored. The requirement for the applicant to be familiar with hero designs is interesting as this could hint towards the next game having multiple playable characters. Another possibility could be that the upcoming game might be set in theGod of Waruniverse, considering the combat requirements for this unannounced project are similar to the 2018God of WarandRagnarok.
Several other job listings on the Santa Monica website have also hinted towards an unannounced title being the works. If this title is set in theGod of Waruniverse, fans already have several hints pointing towards its setting. For instance, the2018God of Warteased an Egyptian setting for a future title, by showcasing the Eye of Horus on a panel in Tyr’s Temple. The game’s director, Cory Barlog, has also admitted that the game almost had an Egyptian setting before the team decided otherwise.
