Without a doubt, Rockstar Games has more than made a name for itself thanks to several high-profile franchises.Red Dead RedemptionandGrand Theft Autoare the biggest names of course, but even these were built alongside othersuccesses likeL.A. Noire, Midnight Club, and so on. Because of this, it seems Rockstar is all about putting more intoRDRandGTAas the company’s most popular titles, yet it’s clear thatRed Dead Redemption 3andGrand Theft Auto 6are still years away.
Reportedly, however, Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive are working on remastering certain entries in both of these franchises. If the rumoredGrand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogydoes well, Rockstar will reportedly also develop aRed Dead Redemption 1 Remaster. Not only would these titles give fans something to do in each of these franchises while waiting for the next title, but it would be great to check out these titles amped up for new hardware.

TheGrand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy—which supposedly consists ofGTA 3, Vice City, andSan Andreas—will be the first big hurdle for Rockstar’s new remasters. However, it was first set to release this fall and now recent reports state that it’ll be 2022, sometime afterGrand Theft Auto 5: Enhanced and Expandedreleases. This sudden change is reason enough to be wary, but thankfully, there is plenty of evidence these do exist outside the initial reports.
New Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Evidence
There are two key pieces of evidence that suggest development onGrand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogyis underway. The first is that the South Korean ratings board has rated the game, with the official title “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” being leakedalongside that. While ratings aren’t always definitive, they are at least credible evidence that something is out there, and having a proper title is rather convincing too.
The second and most convincing basically comes from Rockstar Games itself. Its launcher was recently updated and datamining foundreferences toGTA 3, Vice City, andSan Andreas, despite these games already existing. Through these files, fans also found code pertaining to each game’s logo as well. Theoretically, this could have been done for maintenance or any other reason, but then that timing would be pure coincidence which seems unlikely.
As such, while Rockstar has yet to say anything about it, theGrand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogyseems like a safe bet. It may very well be afterGTA 5’s enhanced editionthat something about them is revealed officially, but right now, it’s Rockstar’s worst kept secret.
Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogyis reportedly in development.
