Guerrilla Games confirmed a new installment in itsHorizonfranchise, letting fans know that Aloy and her friends will continue their journey across the machine-ridden post-apocalyptic world they began exploring inHorizon Zero Dawnand its sequelHorizon Forbidden West. This announcement comes less than a week after the release ofBurning Shores, the DLC forHorizon Forbidden Westtaking Aloy and her companions to the volcanic ruins of Los Angeles.
The story of Aloy began in 2017 with the release ofHorizon Zero Dawn, an action RPG following the young huntress as she tried to uncover the mysteries of her past in a world overrun by giant machines that wiped out most of humanity.Guerrilla Games releasedHorizon Forbidden Westin 2022, continuing the adventures of Aloy as she headed to the Western United States to save everyone from a world-ending threat. Just like its predecessor,Forbidden Westwas nominated for several end-of-the-year accolades and was praised for its graphics, story, and gameplay mechanics.

In a message from Guerrilla Games, the company announced the new roles of a variety of key members and shared that they would be working on the next adventures of Aloy, hinting at a third installment in theHorizonfranchise. Studio Director and Executive Producer Angie Smets leaves Guerrilla to become Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios, with Joel Eschler, Hella Schmidt, and Jan-Bart van Beek forming the new management team of Guerrilla. They will lead the studio as it keeps on expanding the world ofHorizonwith a sequel toForbidden Westand developsa newHorizonmultiplayer game.
While this message confirms that a newHorizongame is in the works, the next project of Guerrilla will more likely bethe newHorizonmultiplayer projectrather than a sequel toForbidden West. The studio was recently hiring a Lead World Designer to work on this upcomingHorizonmultiplayer game, with the job description stating this would be Guerrilla’s next game.
Fans have been hoping for a third installment in theHorizonseries after the release ofForbidden West, wondering what will happen to Aloy and her companions after the events of this second game. TheHorizon Forbidden Westsequel could give a larger role to Varl or Erend, redeem minor villains from previous entries, or even see thedeath ofHorizon’s main protagonist Aloy. More information aboutHorizon 3should be revealed in the upcoming months, after the release of theHorizonmultiplayer project.
