Summary
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2has received a new update, patch 1.0.5.0, that fixes several bugs having to do with puzzles and combat, and adds some helpful new features for players. Ninja Theory’s uber-cinematic, story-driven adventure sequelSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2released on May 21, over four years after its original reveal. With developer Ninja Theory’s mastery of Unreal Engine 5 on full display, some say it’s the best looking video game to ever be released thus far.
Picking up after the events of2017’sHellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice,Hellblade 2brings players on a new journey across Iceland where Senua meets several key new characters on her harrowing quest. The sequel’s impressively refined and detailed combat animations are certainly a step up from the original. While combat is still as straight-forward as it was inSenua’s Sacrifice, and players only face off against one enemy at a time, unlike in the original, many players have praised the sequel’s much more weighty and realistic approach to combat. Coupled with several new types of puzzles players come across, many believeHellblade 2is a big step up from the original.

Just over a week after the game’s release, Ninja Theory has put out update 1.0.5.0 forSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. The patch hopes to tackle a myriad of bugs, including addressing rare but immersion-breaking combat animation desyncs, a crash that occurs when using the game’s stunning photo mode for an extended time, missing facial animations in Chapter 5, and more. The photo mode crash fix is particularly important, considering it’s one of the game’s strongest and most celebrated features;Senua’s Saga:Hellblade 2’s striking visualsalmost beg for players to use its extensive photo mode often.
Some other important fixes brought along in update 1.0.5.0 include an instance of indoor rain that occurs early on in the first chapter of the game. WithHellblade 2’s surreal psychological themes at play, indoor rain seems like it’d be a fitting occurrence, especially considering all that Senua experiences throughout the game, but in this case, it’s unintentional. The patch also adds a very helpful warning notification when players hit “New Story,” since doing so erases the current save and chapter select progress. Additionally, the patch notes vaguely mention that some ofHellblade 2’s boss fightshave been tweaked to ensure an overall smoother combat experience.
SinceSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2enjoyed an incredibly polished release, there isn’t really a ton that needs fixing in the game. Players should still be able to expect a couple more updates to further smooth out any remaining hitches in the combat, puzzles, or cinematics. Beyond that, many fans would agree thatHellblade 2is in a great spot, and Ninja Theory should soon be able to pull its remaining team to pivot towards the studio’s next title.
