An amusing new clip posted online forThe Last of Us 2shows Ellie as an invincible protagonist, whose continued existence is indomitably willed by a plot that needs her to push itself forward. The somber post-apocalyptic epic is littered with moments of great tragedy, but occasionallyThe Last of Us 2can be unintentionally hilarious.
There is a swirling rumor that the newThe Last of Usmultiplayer game will show in some capacity at the forthcoming PlayStation Showcase on May 24. With a wellspring of renewed interest in the franchise in part fromThe Last of UsPart 1PC port released in March, as well as the smash hit HBO series based on the game, the timing is perfect for Naughty Dog to unveil its previously announced title, which for now remains shrouded in mystery. A video shared to Reddit by user Uh_Oh_Mister highlights the overpowered nature of the dodge button inThe Last of Us 2. From a drab corridor, Ellie is in a fight to the death with a group of scavengers. Taking cover behind a disused hospital bed, she easily guns down two enemies with well-placed headshots from her pistol. What makes this feat more remarkable is that a third scavenger is all-the-while slashing at her from the back with a hatchet amid exhausted grunts, while Ellie casually and deftly evades every blow between shots. Ellie then proceeds to pull out her rifle and gun down the feckless third enemy, a comical conclusion to theotherwise bleak encounters inThe Last of Us 2.
Naughty Dog went all out with itsaccessibility options forThe Last of Usseries, raising the industry standard and allowing a wider audience to experience the 2020 Game Awards Game of the Year and its predecessor. Uh_Oh_Mister’s video shows several of those options in action, such as auto aim and decreased enemy damage. The robust accessibility for the game goes beyond difficulty settings, however, enabling many who would otherwise be gated off from the title due to issues with hearing, vision, or motor function to play it to completion.
The melancholy nature ofThe Last of Us 2is punctuated with some truly touching and personable momentsin the story, but its largest dose of levity occasionally comes from videos like Uh_Oh_Mister’s. Combat in the game can be immersive to an unparalleled degree, but it is not immune to the hilariously unlikely scenarios such as Ellie casually ducking the blows of an enraged man while keeping her back to him and gunning down his accomplices.
The Last of Us Part 2is available now for PS4 and PS5.
