As the youngest lieutenant of the Xianzhou Alliance’s Cloud Knights, Yanqing is often shown fending off enemies, including Jingliu, to protect the Luofu. In Version 1.2’s Trailblazer Mission, he’sone of the new bossesthat players would face while controlling Imbibitor Lunae. They would later face him again in Kafka’s Companion Mission, where he shows up to apprehend the Stellaron Hunter. Despite the popularity ofHonkai: Star Rail’s current update, there seems to be some players who think that HoYoverse is bullying Yanqing. In one Reddit post, user Art-Leading made a meme that accused the devs of making him a “punching bag” because he would only show up as an antagonist in the game. They added that his appearance in the Kafka Companion Mission was “unnecessary” because it allegedly didn’t give him any character development.

ManyHonkai: Star Railfans in the comments section seemed to agree with the sentiment, with one saying that theYanqingfight during the Kafka Companion Mission was random, and seemed like the only point was to get him beaten up. They added that Yanqing’s first two encounters, which were the battle against Jingliu and Imbibitor Lunae and Blade, were fair before he was simply defending the Xianzhou Luofu. Meanwhile, others defended HoYoverse’s storyline decisions, claiming that Yanqing was getting beaten up because of his inexperience as a swordsman.

While both sides of the argument seemed to make valid points about Yanqing’s situation, it’s also important to remember thatHonkai: Star Rail’s story is still far from finished. Yanqing could still be given a bigger role in future updates, especially with the rumored arrival ofleaked character Jingliuin Version 1.4. The two will likely cross paths again, where they can battle it out and Yanqing could potentially come out as the winner this time. It’s true that he’s a young swordsman that still has a lot to learn, so it would be interesting to see how he’ll grow in the future.

Honkai: Star Railis available now for Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation 5 version launches in Q4 2023.
