Summary
Starfieldis finally here. After years of development, Bethesda’s latest sprawling RPG has arrived and is proving to be the developer’s most ambitious project to date. With the cosmos as its backdrop,Starfieldinvites players to explore space at their own leisure, offering a huge amount of content made up of quests, side quests, and activities. Players can build settlements, create and customize their own ships, or just focus on the game’s narrative. Should they choose the latter, many fans will want to know just how long it will take to beat the game, especially compared to the likes of Bethesda’s other huge RPGs likeFallout 4.
FromFallout 3toThe Elder Scrolls 6: Skyrim,Bethesda’s games are known for being some of the longest RPGs ever, due to the sheer amount of content poured into them for players to enjoy.Starfieldis certainly no different in this regard and is packed full of things for players to see and do. From joining the devious Crimson Fleet to engaging in dogfights in the far corners of the galaxy, each player’s experience is likely to be totally unique. This means that the length of time any player spends with the game is likely to vary wildly depending on how much of the game’s content they choose to engage with, but main stories are a little easier to track down.

Starfield’s Main Campaign vs. Fallout 4’s
DespiteStarfield’s impressively large scale, players may be surprised to learn that, should they choose to ignore the game’s side content and activities, they could actually wrap the whole thing up a lot quicker than they realize. Purely focusing on the main campaign,Starfieldcan actually be finished in under 20 hours. This actually makes it one of Bethesda’s shortest games, a fact which is quite astonishing, considering there are over 1000 planets to explore. It’s worth noting, however, that aside from speed runners, not many gamers will be looking to finishStarfieldin a hurry. For completionists, or those who just wish for a good mixture of main and side content, the game can provide anywhere between 50 and 200 hours of content.
Fallout 4proved to be a huge hit for Bethesdawhen it was released in 2015. Introducing players to the grim, post-apocalyptic world of the Commonwealth, the game built on the success ofFallout 3, creating a richly detailed, engaging experience. Even when only focusing on the main narrative, players would still spend approximately 30 hours getting through the campaign. Taking into account side quests and other activities, the title provides well over 100 hours of content.
Players are still learning a lot aboutStarfield, and many of its secrets have yet to be discovered. Some have criticized its size, with a portion of the game’s planets being barren and uninteresting, but the truth is, this is part of the game’s experience and helps to encapsulate the lonely vastness of space. If this was the intention, it’s hard to argue that the popular developer has nailed it, creating an RPG that brings players as close to experiencing life in space as anything ever has before.
Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.Fallout 4is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
