Before last week’s Sony State of Play, players weren’t sure what to believe surroundingSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Beyond the cinematic trailers that had been released, much of players' knowledge came from a host of leaks regardingSuicide Squad’s battle pass, gameplay, and plot. TheState of Play presentationalleviated many of the major concerns regarding the title’s battle pass and gameplay leaks, placing them both in a more positive context. However, the final cinematic footage had perhaps the biggest impact, outright disproving many details leaked aboutSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s story.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguetells the story of a band of villains tasked with eliminating the threat posed by a corrupted Justice League, just a few months after the events ofBatman: Arkham Knight. Under the control of the alien-villain Brainiac, the Justice League has abandoned its pledge to protect the earth, and is, instead, helping to overthrow it. Details leaked before its most recent presentation revealed a gruesome series of events, concerning some of DC’s biggest heroes and villains. WhileSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s newest footage confirms the title’s mature violence, it utterly negates the events of the leak.

Lex Luthor, Penguin, and others will aid the titular team’s battle with the Justice League in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s biggest leakmentioned multiple characters' early deaths, including Lex Luthor and The Riddler. However,Suicide Squad’s cinematics seemingly confirm that the two will appear throughout the title. The leak stated that the Riddler would die early in the game, in a self-referential joke to previous Riddler Trophy collectathons. However, a glowing Riddler Trophy symbol can be seen mid-mission in the latest footage, suggesting that The Riddler will return to his trademark Arkham-verse role in this newest adventure, challenging the player with puzzle-derived collectibles.

Lex Luthorappears to play a major role as one ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’smain allies. The gameplay presentation from Sony’s State of Play shows an entire mission devoted to saving and recruiting him. Whereas the leak claims the character is found dead while players acquire a kryptonite bullet, new footage appears to set the character up for appearances throughoutSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. What’s more, a statement by the Flash asserts that Lex may have had something to do with the current state of the Justice League. Players will have to wait and see just how much Luthor knows about Brainiac when the game is officially released.

A significant portion ofSuicide Squad’s plot leak revolved around Wonder Woman’s attempts to save the Justice League. The leak claims that Wonder Woman has exhausted all leads, and declares the Earth to be doomed. She tells the Suicide Squad aboutthe Flashpoint Protocol, a final hope for saving reality as they know it. However, those who watched last week’s State of Play footage were presented with a very different story.

In what is likely the biggest debunking of leaked information so far,Suicide Squad’s State of Play presentation revealed a shockingconfrontation between Wonder Woman and The Flash. A desperate Diana uses the Lasso of Truth to override The Flash’s brainwashing and speak to him directly. She hopes to find any clue as to how the Justice League can be saved. To her horror, The Flash reveals that death is the only way to release her friends from Brainiac’s control and save the Earth. A brief montage then introduces corrupted versions of Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueappears set to deliver on its premise. Some portions of the title’s plot leaks may prove true, but the recent State of Play footage pokes holes in many of their biggest claims. While the footage helps to explain Wonder Woman’s involvement in the plot, players still have big questions surroundingSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s connection to theBatman: Arkhamseries. Batman undoubtedly plays a major role in the title, though little is known about the events that led to Brainiac’s control of the Justice League. Luckily, fans only have a few more months before the highly-anticipated title is released.
