With the news thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3has finished production, director James Gunn has taken to social media to share moreGuardianscontent that fans didn’t get to see in the first film.The firstGuardians of the Galaxyfilm finds the titular heroes traveling to Knowhere to deliver the Power Stone to The Collector. Now, fans are begging for the full scene to be released. “Groot’s Last Supper. Screenshot from the originalGuardians, which I cut from the final film,” Gunn tweeted alongside the screenshot. In the still,Groot is seen recreatingin the famous “Last Supper” from the Bible. Rocket, Drax, and a few other galaxy-themed characters surround him while he watches what appears to be a wrestling match between two creatures. Without fail, Gunn’s tweeted gained traction as fans reacted to this new scene for the first time.
Fans filled the replies with questions, reactions, and requests for the scene to be released. However, when one fan asked why this scene wasn’t in the original, Gunn replied, “It was too showy and stopped the flow of the story. It was the right choice.” Although, Gunn did clarify on another reply that, “Most of the scene is still in the movie.” Based on the background location in the photo, fans will probably begin to piece together when this scene would have taken place, and what was left of it after editing.
Back in May, Gunn announced that production hadwrapped onGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, sharing a photo of the slate that was used for the final shot. “After over 100 days of shooting & over 3000 shots, this is the slate for the final shot of #GotGVol3, presented to me by the camera crew. It was an easy shot of Rocket seated, 1st with @seangunn, & then nothing there, & took everything in me not to break down sobbing on the spot,” Gunn tweeted.
TheGuardians of the Galaxydirectorwent on to share that even though he will be continuing to work and be with the crew until the film’s release next May, the last shot on set was a like reminder of how temporary life can be. “Again, I’ll still be working with them over the next year until release, but shooting that last shot was a reminder of the warm impermanence of life & love, & how that impermanence makes it so precious, so valuable, & is a good reason to be grateful for what I have right now.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is set to release in theaters on June 28, 2025.
