After all the dirty laundry was aired following his domestic violence arrest,Rick and Mortycreator and voice actor Justin Roiland had domestic violence charges against him dropped. After the charges were dismissed, Roiland sent out an official statement declaring his innocence on the matter but failed to mention all the other allegations that were made against him following the initial charge of domestic violence that started the whole thing.Roiland took to social media to not only express that he was innocent but also shame the public for being quick to judge him when, according to him, not all the facts were released. However, theRick and Mortyco-creator did not comment on the many other allegations that have been made against him over the past month or so.RELATED:Rick And Morty Will Cover Its Full 70-Episode Order Despite Justin Roiland’s Exit"I have always known that these claims were false - and I never had any doubt in that this day would come. I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process," Roiland said in an official statement via his personal Twitter page. “Most of all, I’m disappointed that so many people were so quick to judge without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex trying to bypass due process and have me ‘canceled.’ That it may have succeeded, even partially, is shameful. However, now that the legal case has ended, I’m determined to move forward and focus on both my creative projects and restoring my good name.” Roiland’s caption above his tweet simply read as “justice.”
While Roiland may have had those charges dropped, he’s got a lot of other allegations that he will have to answer to shortly. Following his arrest, there was a report aboutRoiland’s long history of problematic behaviorin the production ofRick and Mortyand in DMs that he would send to teenagers on social media. Not to take anything away from a charge as serious domestic violence, but the one charged against Roiland was merely the tip of the iceberg of what was to come that he still has not answered to.
Odds are, unless he’s hellbent on getting his career back on track and he somehow (and unlikely) has a reasonable explanation for the other allegations that have been made against him, Roiland probably will never answer to the other claims that were made against him. Reading between the lines, it is telling thatno one fromRick and Morty’s production teamhas come out to defend Roiland after his entire world imploded. Also, it doesn’t appear as though many are excited to see the domestic violence charges have been dropped.
The bottom line is while Roiland may have won a battle, the war has only begun on him. He’s far from out of the woods, and odds are, he likely will never come out of the woods. In this day and age, sketchy behaviors are not only the most exposed they’ve ever been, but the punishment has also been the most severe. Unless Roiland has a believable defense foreveryclaim, don’t expect him to be involved inany production likeSolar Oppositesin the near or distant future.
Rick and Mortyseasons 1-5 can be streamed on Hulu.
