Since Season 10 began over two months ago,League of Legendsplayers have been enjoying the 2020 releases so far. With the upcomingFiddlesticks reworkand imminent Dark Star event, Riot Games has revealed they have even more plans ready to go. But on another note, the company also has some more light-hearted ideas for the annual batch of April Fools skins.
For over a decade, players have been able to customize the looks of theirLeaguechampionswith different skins. Most looks are a drastic departure from the character’s base design with some making them look straight out of a fantasy or sci-fi series. On the other hand, some skins are silly to an absurd degree, much to the delight of fans in the community. Following the latter trend, three champions will receive their new skin very soon.

While April Fools began as an in-game joke in 2010, Riot has made the day into a seasonalLeague of Legendsevent complete with game modes like Ultra Rapid Fire and skin sets for mostly older champions. This year’s release will be the ninth set of skins since Urf the Manatee became a onesie for Warwick back in 2010. For 2020’s celebration, Pengu Cosplay Tristana, Furyhorn Cosplay Veigar, and Pajama Guardian Cosplay Urgot will make their way onto Summoner’s Rift.
Pengu Cosplay Tristana and Furyhorn Cosplay Veigar are references to the penguins of Runeterra and several Little Legends fromTeamfight Tactics. As such, both skins have visual effects using the golden spatula and fireworks from URF plus adorable sound effects. On the other hand, Pajama Guardian Cosplay Urgot has been a community meme and skin years in the making. Wielding the same magical powers, color scheme, and theme song as the Star Guardians, this fanboy version of Urgot is the closest players will get to seeing the Dreadnought in a spandex suit.
But these champions weren’t simply chosen at random to receive the April Fools skins. Followinggoals outlined in January, Riot expressed a desire to start giving new looks to champions who haven’t received attention in a while. At the same time, this was a golden opportunity to finally give the community what they want, since Urgot has been parodied as an unofficial Star Guardian since 2016.
Even with unforeseen circumstances like the temporarycancellation ofLeagueesports, it seems Riot is prepared to keep players entertained for the next few months. More than ever, they have shown a desire to honor fan creations from the community in-game, time and time again.
