League of Legendsdeveloper Riot Games is often looking to make new additions to its extremely popular MOBA game. As is the case with many competitive multiplayer games, changes toLeague of Legendscan cause some backlash from players of the game, such as the recently added Chemtech Drake, which was criticized by players for granting increased damage and a resurrection passive.Riot Games has since disabled the Chemtech Drake, along with some other aspects of the game.
Earlier in January 2022, Riot teased future champions in a developer video, alongside some of the changes that would be coming to the game. AlreadyLeague of Legendsfans are getting hyped about the introduction of the newest champion, with many impressed at Riot’s depiction of an older woman who looks her age, with wrinkles and defined muscles. Renata is a support hero primarily, with her abilities centered around rooting enemies in place, slowing them and even turning them against each other with her ultimate ability. Her passive allows for her to build up damage on an enemy with basic attacks, and when an ally attacks that same enemy additional damage will be dealt.
As the Chem Baroness, with ties to the city of Zaun, any fan of theLeague of Legendsanimated Netflix seriesArcanemay notice the connections between Renata and the setting of the show. While Renata does not make an appearance inArcane, chem barons do. They are the people running the production of chemtech and shimmer, yet Renata appears to be distanced from them, as an entrepreneur representing herself.
Since the release ofArcaneand the critical and public praise it received, Riot has been tying in many updates toLeague of Legendswith elements seen in the show. There’s the aforementioned Chem Drake, which was released originally alongside the Hextech Drake, representing two forms of technology inArcane.Anothernew legend shown off by Riot was Zeri, who was also revealed to be from Zaun. Perhaps this means that her and Renata could be making appearances in season 2 ofArcane.
