Yacht Club Games’Shovel Knightis often credited as being one of the very best titles to come from the retro revival era of indie games, often credited as one of the best independent games of all time. It makes sense then thatMina the Hollower, the studio’s next new IP, shattered its Kickstarter goal with flying colors last month and is looking to end its campaign in a few days making over four times its goal. Now, Yacht Club Games has announced that legendaryStreets of Ragecomposer Yuzo Koshiro will be contributing toMina the Hollower’s soundtrack.
Mina the Hollowerwas announced during the developer’s Yacht Club Games Presents presentation on February 1st, which was aired as part of G4’s Xplay show. Yacht Club has described the game as the studio’s equivalent toThe Legend of Zeldaseries, withShovel Knightbeing itsSuper Mario. The game isinspired by Gameboy Color adventure games such asThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s AwakeningandCastlevania Adventureand mixes a gothic horror aesthetic with highly stylized pixel artwork.

On February 1st, the developer launchedMina the Hollower’s Kickstarter campaignwith an intended goal of roughly $310,000. The campaign quickly met this goal in only a matter of days, and is currently resting at over $1 million and continues to grow even as there is over a day left before it ends. As a result, Yacht Club has promised numerous stretch goals as the game earns more money, with it now confirmed to include a New Game Plus mode, a fishing mini-game, and Mac and Linux ports. The developer has also confirmed today that Yuzo Koshiro, the legendary composer behind games likeActRaiserandStreets of Rage, will compose two tracks for the game.
Yuzo Koshiro is one of the most respected composers in video game history, defining the sounds of many iconic video game franchises and credited with growing the scope of video game music as a whole.Koshiro’s most famous work is likely theStreets of Rageseries, which featured groundbreaking electronic dance arrangements that made full use of the Sega Genesis' sound chip and are often considered ahead of their time. Koshiro has also composed for beloved games such asShenmue, theEtrian Odysseyseries,Kid Icarus: Uprising, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
As Yacht Club Games specifies, Koshiro will only be contributing two tracks toMina the Hollower, with the game’s main composition coming from beloved indie game composer Jake Kaufman. Kaufman is legendary in his own right, composing for such beloved games as theShantaeseries,DuckTales Remastered,Crypt of the NecroDancer, andYacht Club Games' ownShovel Knight.
Mina the Holloweris currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and is confirmed to come to PC and consoles.
