TheYakuzaandLike a Dragonseries have a long-standing tradition of including mini-games focused on recruiting NPCs from the main story and side quests. These games, includingCabaret Club,Clan Creator, andYakuza: Like a Dragon’s Ichiban Confectionsbusiness management minigame, revolve around building and enhancing a character roster for success. Players familiar with these mini-games are used to the process of discovering and recruiting new team members.
Like a Dragon Gaidencontinues this tradition with its revamped Coliseum system, merging features from both the recurringPurgatory Coliseumand Clan Creator mini-games, thereby offering a fresh and novel experience. In line with earlier games, recruiting strong allies is key to succeeding in the Coliseum, bringing players both fame and wealth. Here’s how players can find and recruit every possible member of Coliseum Clan Joryu inLike a Dragon Gaiden.

Using Different Fighter Types in Coliseum
There are three fighter roles inLike a Dragon Gaiden’s Coliseum:Assault,Guardian, andHealer. These types align with the standard"holy trinity"seen in many RPGs. Assault fighters engage in direct combat, Guardians adopt a protective role and focus on defending the leader, and Healers provide support from the backline, regularly using healing abilities to restore health to nearby fighters. Each fighter also has one of three fighting styles that is indicated by an additional icon above their role symbol.
Players can build their team with any mix of these roles. For optimal performance in most battles, a balanced team typically includes1-2 Guardians, 2-3 Healers, and the rest asAssault fighters. Fighters are categorized into Bronze, Silver, or Gold ranks, impacting their Health, Attack, and Defense stats. Naturally, higher-ranked fighters have better stats and are usually preferable for most battles.

Increasing Fighter Level and Bond
The character level of each Joryu Clan Fighter inLike a Dragon’s Coliseum can be increased up to a maximum of level 20. Fighters gain experience through participation in Coliseum battles and by Joryu purchasing and using Guides to Cooperative Fighting. There are four different levels of guides available for purchase from the Fighter’s Lounge Shop in the Fighter’s Lounge, with prices ranging from ¥90,000 to ¥1,800,000. Fighters can also gain experience by participating in training missions available by speaking with the Demon Instructor near the entrance to the lounge.
Each fighter also has a Bond level, which players can increase bybuying giftsin the Fighter’s Lounge. Joryu can also purchasepricey champagnewhich increases his Bond with all recruited Joryu Clan members. Enhancing a fighter’s Bond boosts the effectiveness of their Heat Skill. Bond levels can reach a maximum of Level 3, which fully maximizes that fighter’sHeat Skill, a powerful ability that can be released once a character’s heat gauge is filled.

Unlocking and Recruiting Coliseum Fighters
Players can recruit fighters for the Joryu Clan in Gaiden’s Coliseum through various methods. New members can join during certain parts of the story, by fulfilling Akame Network requests, by defeating them in the Coliseum, through recruitment via scouts with a finder’s fee paid in yen, or by purchasingdownloadable content. Fighters recruited through payment to scouts are unlocked sequentially, with the cost to recruit the next fighter from that scout’s list increasing after each acquisition.
