Fans of animated science fiction anthologies rejoice: the multiple Emmy Award-winningLove, Death + Robotsis set to return to Netflix with an all-new collection of futuristic stories on May 20. The previous season, which premiered June 19, 2025, featured some great segments from talented directors, but season 3 is packing a big surprise in that department.
In his first foray into animation, Academy Award-nominated director and series executive producerDavid Fincher will be joining the ranksof others who have contributed toLove, Death + Robotsin the past. Fincher is the mind behind such celebrated films asSe7en,The Social Network,Fight Club, andZodiac. Despite a career that spans decades of working in film, music videos, and television (Fincher has directed episodes of bothMindhunterandHouse of Cards), Fincher has never stepped into a directing role on an animated project.

Joining Fincher with a new segment is series creatorTim Miller, director ofDeadpoolandTerminator: Dark Fate. Miller has directed entries in the previous two seasons ofLove, Death + Robots: “Ice Age” in season 1 and “The Drowned Giant” in season 2. Along with Fincher and Miller are shorts from directors including Patrick Osborne, Emily Dean, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, and Emmy and Academy Award winner Alberto Mielgo.
Love, Death + Robotsis known for itsvariety of animation styles and ambitious storytelling, and it appears that this will only continue on in season 3. From tales of a massive crustacean attacking a sailing ship, to an astronaut stranded on one of Jupiter’s moons, to a fresh take on historic folklore, there’s plenty to be found in the latest outing of this celebrated anthology. Even for those who haven’t watched the previous seasons, there’s no reason not to jump in now. Seasons and episodes can bewatched in any order due to their standalone nature(with one notable exception in season 3).
