Lucifer’s Tom Ellis, alongside many of the shows other stars, recently came forward with an outpouring of affection and gratitude for a devoted fan of the show who tragically died of cancer. Jane Wilson, a prominent member of the #SaveLucifer campaign, died on July 18th at the age of 63.
Wilson, a longtime fan of the show, campaigned tirelessly along with countless other faithfulLuciferviewers to save the show when it was unexpectedly canceled by Fox in 2018. The movement, rallying around the hashtag #SaveLucifer, garnered enough momentum to quickly catch the eyes of the show’s own stars and staff. Their efforts appeared to pay off, asLuciferwaspicked up by Netflixfor a new season barely a month later. Perhaps they were more effective than they had anticipated, as two years later, the show isgearing up for its 5th season, with a 6th already confirmed.

But Wilson herself had been such a driving force behind the movement that stars like Ellis, who plays thedevilishtitular character, had come to know her by name. So when news broke on Twitter of her passing, the mourning spread quickly. “Jane was always so supportive and kind,” Ellis said in a tweet addressing her death. “The way she carried herself and cared for others is emblematic of a true #lucifan and she will be greatly missed.” Wilson herself had actually co-created the term “Lucifan” to refer to dedicated followers of the show, so its use here is particularly poignant.
Ellis wasn’t alone in his sentiment, as shortly after the announcement, several stars andshowrunnersfromLuciferquickly came forward with their own words of grief and remembrance. DB Woodside, who portrays the angel Amenadiel, expressed his regrets and support. “I’m so sorry,” he replied to the news fromLuciferfan group LuciFans. Lesley-Ann Brandt, known on the show as demonic bounty hunter and occasional therapy-goer Mazikeen, was among the first to show her support upon hearing the news. She sent her “sincere condolences to Jane’s family and friends.”
Co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson joined the cast members with short statements of their own. “We have lost a part of our beautiful #Lucifamily - the lovely Jane Wilson,” Modrovich tweeted in a reply to the news. Henderson penned a tweet of his own, bidding Wilson a peaceful rest, and adding “I hope we brought some light to your life; I know you did to ours, and we are grateful for it.”
Jane Wilson’s name may not be on the lips of the masses, but her influence is felt by everyLuciferfan who celebrated the show’s revival. Thanks to her and the rest of the #SaveLucifer campaign, the show was given a chance to end on its own terms rather than beunceremoniously canceledlike so many other promising series of the past. Best wishes go out to her friends and family during this difficult time.
Part 1 ofLucifer’s 5th season is set to drop on Netflix on August 21st.
