Summary
Loki’sseason two, and potentially series, finale has come and gone, giving the character a complete story and heartfelt ending. The season two finale culminated Tom Hiddleston’s work as Loki for the past 14 years. All signs point to Hiddleston being done with the MCU until possiblyAvengers: Secret Wars, but even his inclusion there is uncertain. As much as fans loved the end ofLoki, they never got the one interaction they’ve been hoping for since the announcement of aLokiTV series: A reunion with his brother Thor.
The last time the two brothers saw each other was on board the Statesman, a ship the Asgardians commandeered on Sakaar to rescue the remaining Asgardians from certain doom during theevents ofRagnarok. Thor watched as Thanos killed Loki with his bare hands just after the God of Mischief attempted to slay the genocidal Grimace. Meanwhile, the events ofEndgameandLokigave fans hope that Thor would get a chance to see the person Loki became, easing the grief from seeing his brother’s death. Unfortunately, theLokifinale all but ensures that won’t happen. There is one small glimmer of hope, though.

What Happened to Loki at the end of Season Two?
Loki’sseason twofollowed the titular character frantically searching for a way to prevent millions of Kangs from starting a universal war, which eventually leads to him needing to find a way to fix the temporal loom, a massive mechanical device that takes raw temporal energy and turns it into a physical timeline. The sacred timeline branched out and created the multiverse once Sylvie killed He Who Remains in the season one finale. However, He Who Remains didn’t design the temporal loom to contain infinite timelines.
No matter what Loki did to solve the loom’s issue, he couldn’t prevent the complete breakdown of reality as the loom was a failsafe designed to maintain order and delete timelines as soon as it became too many to handle. Except for the sacred timeline, that is. That gave Loki the opportunity to realize his glorious purpose and become the god he was meant to be. A god for everyone. He destroyed the temporal loom and took the strands of raw temporal energy in his grasp to become a living temporal loom.

While he’s not dead, Loki can’t leave his throne at the center of the multiverse, or he risks the collapse of all reality, including the sacred timeline. It’s unlikely anyone could find their way to him either, as he’s out in the middle of the end of time, one of the more challenging locations in the multiverse to reach. Until there’s a hard reset on the multiverse, expected to happen in2027’sAvengers: Secret Wars, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki can’t walk amongst the physical timelines of the multiverse and interact with his old friends and family.
Who is Sylvie and Where did she end Up?
Thefirst season ofLokiintroduced a new anti-hero who quickly became a fan favorite. Her name is Sylvie Laufeydottir, played by Sophia Di Martino, and she was from an alternate timeline where her people knew her as the Goddess of Mischief. She is a variant of Loki who spent her childhood on Asgard before the TVA showed up and erased it all from the history books. Sylvie spent her formative years on the run from the Time Variance Authority, hiding out in apocalypses throughout time and using her abilities of enchantment to survive. While on the run she plotted her revenge against the TVA.
Her threat eventually became too much for the TVA to handle alone, so Mobius recruited Loki into their ranks to hunt her down, which didn’t prove an easy feat because getting a Loki to be helpful is like herding cats. Eventually,Sylvie and Loki team upwhen their goals align and the Loki variant accomplishes her ultimate goal: killing He Who Remains. She thought this set her free, but the events of season two had her on the run again as timelines collapsed and disappeared into the aether.

By the end ofLokiseason two, Sylvie is finally free to live her life as she wants without fear of the TVA hunting her, especially since it changed course into an organization tasked with hunting down He Who Remains variants. Since she still possesses He Who Remains' tempad, she can go anywhere/anywhen she wants. That means it might not be the last timefans get to see Sylvie.
How can Loki Reunite with Thor?
Since fans watched Loki take possession of the space stone, slip out of his timeline during the events of the firstThe Avengersfilm, and end up working for the TVA, they’ve wanted to see him reunite with his brother, the God of Thunder. The original Loki went through a great deal of character development that saw his moral alignment shift from chaotic evil to chaotic good. Then fans got to know the God of Mischief’s variant, who stepped through a portal during the events ofAvengers: Endgame’stime heist. This version of Loki underwent tremendous development in such a short time.
That was the Loki fans wanted to see catch up with Thor. It would have been aheartfelt reunion since the God of Thunderwitnessed Thanos kill Loki right in front of him. Unfortunately, Loki cannot leave his throne at the End of Time and inform the God of Thunder that he’s alive and better than ever. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t have their reunion. Thor might hear about Loki’s existence and attempt to visit him, but there’s a more likely scenario: Sylvie.
After all, she is Loki’s variant and had to witness the erasure of her entire family, including Thor, when the TVA pruned her timeline. It wouldn’t be the reunion fans would expect, but watching Sylvie interact with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor would be entertaining.Sylvie’s story isn’t over, as she has a lot of emotional baggage to overcome. With the multiverse in full swing and her timeline gone, she’s jumping around looking for a place to belong. She might return to the TVA to help Mobius, but the sacred timeline’s Thor would be a great place for her to start.
