Achievement-hunting players have plenty of advancements to go after inMinecraft, but one player stumbles across a glitch that can prove useful in obtaining one of the game’s more convoluted achievements which involves killing a Ghast in the Overworld dimension. The game’s thriving community has discovered countless similar exploits over the years, prompting someMinecraftplayers to attempt speedrunning the game and all of its advancements in one run.

While it might not seem so difficult a task for players in the late game, the “Uneasy Alliance” achievement is obtained by a small percentage of the player population only. This task, requiring players to bait a Ghast into the Overworld and subsequently kill it, is made particularly troublesome due to the Ghast’s deceptively fast movement speed, high damage output, and often inconsistent hitbox. It’s these attributes that make it hard to lead a Ghast into the Overworld in the first place, as their status as a flying mob doesn’t make it any easier for players hoping to attach a lead to them. Ghastsspawn exclusively inMinecraft’s Nether dimension, and their massive size usually necessitates the construction of a large Nether portal if players seek to unlock the Uneasy Alliance achievement the conventional way.

That said, one player accidentally discovered a method of grabbing this achievement in a much simpler way, offering a method that could be useful for fansattempting all-advancementMinecraftspeedruns. A player named TSlyme1 on Reddit made a post on the site featuring the moment when they fired an arrow as they were leaving the Nether through a portal that happened to kill a Ghast during the moment they were crossing between dimensions. This well-timed shot awarded them the Uneasy Alliance achievement as the Ghast technically died as the player reappeared in the Overworld.

The player managed to pull this off while playing on an SMP server with a ping of roughly 120ms, and whileMinecraft’s multiplayer serversoften deal with world loading slightly differently, it should nonetheless be possible to replicate this method in singleplayer since Nether chunks don’t fully unload while Overworld chunks are loading. Using a bow and arrow to do this would require an incredibly well-timed shot, so some players have even suggested more creative methods such as trapping Ghasts and using redstone-wired TNT so that players have better control over the timing.

Minecraft’s Nether dimension saw a significant overhaulwith the Nether Update in 2020, with a plethora of additional content featuring new mobs, biomes, and structures leading to even more Nether-related advancements. Since then, many in theMinecraftcommunity have held onto hope that the End dimension will someday receive a similar treatment, as that dimension in particular is quite barren when compared to the others, and is brimming with potential that could be unleashed in a future update.
