A new first-person shooter calledMousejust got its first teaser trailer and looks like a potentially impressive combination ofCupheadand the oldDoomgames. LikeCupheadthis could be an indie game that’s a massive success.
Cupheadbridged new and old by utilizing the classic rubber hose style of animation in a modern video game run-and-gun classic. The game even continues to amaze years after its release withthe fantasticCupheadDLC from 2022. The influence of the game is starting to show with the new gameMousewhich will also be using a similar rubber hose-style animation aesthetic, but will be switching things up with a completely different genre.

The official teaser trailer showing off very early gameplay footage ofMouserecently hit the official YouTube channel of the game’s developer, Fumi Games. It’s clear that Fumi is taking a lot of inspiration from bothCupheadas well as the rubber hose animation classics that inspiredCupheadlike the oldestLooney Tunesshorts orSteamboat Willy. It’s also mixing those things with gameplay that looks heavily inspired by theDoomgames; the original ’90s ones, notthe cutesy newMighty Doom. The main character runs around almost puzzle-like maps avoiding waves of firearm-wielding mouse mobsters focusing as much on agility and movement as shooting.
It’s clear from this brief teaser trailer thatMouseis still very much in the early stages of development, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of promise being shown off here. A game that manages to combine all of the influences ofamazing run-and-guns likeCupheadandDoomwhile refining things and creating its own unique voice on top of it would almost certainly be something many gamers would tune in for. Fumi Games is still very new and doesn’t actually have its debut title out yet. Big publishers will likely be eyeing this title, though, considering the teaser trailer has racked up more than 300 thousand views on IGN over the last few days.
Fumi is also working on another title calledGalaxi Taxi, which clearly takes even more inspiration fromCuphead. The game is also a side-scrolling shooter, but in this case,Galaxi Taxiappears to be more akin to the Japanese-style shoot ‘em ups thanCuphead, which was more akin tothe classic run-and-gunContra. NeitherMouseorGalaxi Taxihas a set release date as of right now, so it’s unknown which game will wind up being Fumi’s debut title. Whatever it is, though, it does appear that this up-and-coming Polish video game studio has a lot of promise.
