Nintendo is celebratingKirby’s 30th anniversary this year, and withKirby and the Forgotten Landon its way, the company has decided to add in some free holiday gifts for fans as well. As February 14 approaches, Nintendo has taken to social media to share some adorableKirby-themed Valentine’s Day cards.
Although Kirby is not a character traditionally associated with romance, it can’t be denied that love and affection are important themes found throughout theKirbyfranchise. Many of the characters Kirby meetsstart out as enemies or rivals before being befriended by the adorable pink puffball. This may not sound particularly impressive until one realizes that the list includes corrupt tyrants, evil sorcerers, fragments of eldritch abominations, and potentially even Void Termina, the Kirby’s universe’s Destroyer of Worlds. As such, the character is a great fit for the February 14 festivities.

What Kirby’s Valentine’s Day Cards Look Like
In a recent tweet from the verified Nintendo UK Twitter account,Kirbyfans were treated to four free Kirby-themed Valentine’s Day cards featuring power-ups and forms from theupcomingKirby and the Forgotten Land. The cards feature Kirby with a drill hat, Kirby with a star-shooting gun, and Kirby with a mouthful of light bulb as well as the iconic Carby form. Carby is the official name for the form Kirby takes on when swallowing the top part of a car. None of the other forms displayed here appear to have an official name as of writing, let alone one as fun as Carby.
Each card also comes with an associated - and punny - message that suits the holiday. Drill Kirby’s card says “I dig you,” gun Kirby’s card shows him firing a star at the viewer with “You make me see stars” underneath, light bulb Kirby says “You light up my life,” and Carby says “You drive me wild.” Not only can gamers send these cards to loved ones online, but it may also be worth printing them off onto some nice cardstock asmerchandise forKirby’s 30th anniversary.
As of writing, it appears that many fans are excited about these free Valentine’s Day Kirby cards. However, the post has garnered its share of criticism, mainly from users who think it’s a distraction fromNintendo’s recent storm of copyright takedownson YouTube. A number of other users have begun posting edited versions of the cards with other messages, such as incoherent screaming on the light bulb Kirby image. Another user edited the same card so that light bulb Kirby resembles anAmong Uscharacter, adding the message “You are sus.” While the cards are certainly unexpected and make good meme material, they could also be a great way to make a Nintendo fan’s Valentine’s Day even better.
