Ever sinceNo More Heroes 3was announced at Nintendo’s E3 Direct last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting their first look at the upcoming title from video game auteur Goichi “Suda51” Suda. While the game’s developer, Grasshopper Manufacturer, has been silent on the upcoming title for almost a year now, with the exception of an animated trailer unveiled at the 2019 Game Awards, the game’s release date remains slated for some point in 2020. While many fans are skeptical of whether the title will hit this estimated release window or not, Grasshopper Manufacturer has finally revealed the first gameplay fromNo More Heroes 3,however there is one major catch.
Earlier this month, Suda51shared the first screenshotof the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive on his Twitter account, slightly obscured by an action figure ofRick & Mortycharacter Mr. Meeseeks. This, along with Grasshopper Manufacturer announcing its participation in New Game Plus Expo, indicated that it wouldn’t be long until the cult favorite game developer would finally reveal gameplay for the long anticipated sequel to 2010’sNo More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.

Understandably, fans were ecstatic when yesterday’sNew Game Plus Expo streamopened with a message from Suda51 himself, along with gameplay footage ofNo More Heroes 3playing behind him. The only issue was, Suda never moved to allow viewers to actually look at the gameplay, instead rambling to the audience about his backlog of Nintendo Switch titles he has yet to finish such asSuper Mario Odyssey. Even more humorously, the Japanese game director took to his Twitter account afterwards to pretend that the gameplay reveal was a leak that he was entirely oblivious to, tweeting “Oh snap! Looks like an unfortunate, uh, editing issue, caused a littleNMH3gameplay footage leak!”
Fans of Suda51 are no strangers to the eccentric video game director’s habit of trolling his fans, with the director’s titles featuring a bombastic sense of humor and many tongue-in-cheek references to one another. Hopefully this indirect gameplay reveal leads to more footage from the title in future Nintendo Directs, as up until this point Nintendo has been responsible for the game’s marketing. For now, the gameplay shown does give some sort of idea ofhowNo More Heroes 3will play, appearing mostly similar to theoriginal two Nintendo Wii gamesand showcasing Travis Touchdown facing some sort of boss. As for a legitimate look at the game, it seems fans will have to wait longer.
No More Heroes 3is slated to release in 2020, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
