Nvidia is finally catering to the mid-range market with Ada-based RTX 4000 series GPUs after a long hiatus that saw it launch the RTX4090,4080, 4070TI, and then the4070in that order, all of which cater to high-end and enthusiast tier consumers. There was no love shown for Nvidia enthusiasts looking to upgrade to Ada Lovelace (pun intended) on a budget with the closest RTX 4000 series GPU you could get the RTX 4070 at $600.

The RTX 4060 clocks in at a much lower $299 with the RTX 4060TI pushing a higher $399/$499 price tag (8GB/16GB) as Nvidia moves to shake up the mid-range GPU market that has long been dominated by the RTX 3060, RTX 3060TI, and AMD’s 6600XT/6700XT GPUs.

The Nvidia RTX 4060TI: The New Mid-Range King Of The Hill

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060TI comes with 8GB or alternatively 16GB of GDDR6 memory, and 32MB of L2 Cache and replaces the last gen Ampere-based RTX 3060TI which Nvidia claims it outperforms by 60% in its press release. Compared to last-generation Nvidia offerings, it is considerably more power efficient, coming with a TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 160W, but pushing an average of 140W on gaming workloads with shader performance rated at 22TFLOPS.

The ray tracing performance gains are also significant as part of this release as Nvidia touts it as one of the two cards as the “Ultimate” choices for 1080P gaming and if the performance numbers hold true, they pretty much will reshape the existing mid-range market as we know it in the coming days. With 4352 CUDA cores and boost clocks that push past 2650MHz on some SKUs, it is an excellent offering to consider in a market currently saturated with last-generation GPUs in this price segment.

While power requirements will vary based on SKUs, Gigabyte’s AORUS GeForce RTX 4060 Ti ELITE is currently rated to require a PSU minimum of 500W, with a standard single 8-pin power connector in tow.

Also on offer is the 8th generation Nvidia AV1 encoder as well as 3rd generation RT cores, and we anticipate much better DLSS 3 performance thanks to the relatively new Ada Lovelace architecture in play that has made significant gains when it comes to the same on the higher end RTX 4000 series GPUs so far.

AIB Partners are already releasing pictures of what their own aftermarket RTX 4060TI and 4060 offerings will look like, including Palit Microsystems, an Nvidia AIB partner

The Nvidia RTX 4060TI launches on Wednesday the 24th of May 2023 with multiple AIB partners including, but not limited to ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY and ZOTAC expected to offer their own custom SKUs at launch. The 16GB SKU is expected to launch later, in July 2023 for $499.

The Nvidia RTX 4060: Budget-Conscious DLSS3-enabled 1080P Gaming

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and 24MB of L2 Cache and replaces the last gen Ampere-based RTX 3060. Compared to last-generation Nvidia offerings, it is considerably more power efficient, coming with a TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 115W, but pushing an average of 110W on gaming workloads.

With 15TFLOPS of Shader performance in tow and an undisclosed number of CUDA cores that we expect to be lower than the 4352 that the RTX 4060TI has on offer, the RTX 4060 aims to replace the aging RTX 3060 when it launches in July 2023.

Another AIB Partner, Gigabyte’s website already has listed all its SKUs for the upcoming RTX 4060 and 4060TI GPUs along with detailed specifications.

The Nvidia RTX 4060 launches later, in July 2023 with multiple AIB partners including, but not limited to ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY and ZOTAC expected to offer their own custom SKUs at launch.

The Founders edition is priced at $299, and we expect more premium 3rd party SKUs such as the ASUS ROG Strix variants to be higher than Nvidia’s FE MSRP.
