Outridersby developer People Can Fly is one of the newest entries to the looter shooter genre. The third person cooperative experience takes players to the science fiction world of Enoch, where they must survive against hostile life and a dangerous storm known as the Anomaly. But those grouping up will need to wait temporarily since the servers forOutridersare going down.

Though fans can play solo, many will be joining with two other friends to play in a group of three. As a RPG, fans can witness the full experience by playing together as thedifferent types of classes inOutriders. Recently, there have been some server issues causing trouble for those interested in multiplayer. Now it sounds like the problems are deep under the hood, so the servers are shutting down for now.

The game’s official Twitter account revealed the decision, and went into a bit more detail about the reasoning. Apparently, the team is essentially turning the server off to turn it back on again. While it causes the title to be down, it sounds like it will be worth it in the long run. By doing this, the group can recover and rebuild the server infrastructure to ensure a stable experience. To assuage players, the channel tweeted that this major action will also help keepOutriders' servers from crashinggoing forward.

If that is not enough, People Can Fly also chimed in with some explanations for fans. The studio’s head, Sebastian Wojciechowski, encouraged players by mentioning how Square Enix is working on resolving the problem quickly. Since the game has been in development for years, it is clear that the team wants to get it running again for players. Wojciechowski points out that gamers should judge the game on its own merits rather than these initial server issues.

It is not that shocking that a cooperative looter shooter is having server troubles soon after launch. With so many players hopping on at once to try out the title with friends, there is bound to be some unexpected strain. Even highly anticipated multiplayer games like theDestinyseries or EA’sAnthemhad server connection issues. Fortunately, the teams behindOutridersare staying transparent and not trying to dodge the problem.

That said, a full server shut down could be a questionable sign for the future of the game. While it had a popular beta and launch, there are other problems plaguing the game. For instance, mandatory cutscenes inOutridersfor both solo and multiplayer while going through doors has some fans concerned. In any case, the server problem sounds like a temporary occurrence and is supposed to improve the game for the long haul.

Outridersis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
