In the fifteen days sinceFall Guys' launch, the game has gained a reputation for being a lighthearted, mini-game centric take on the battle royale genre. However, despite its cartoonish facade,Fall Guysrounds can take ruthless, friendship-ending turns,and no one has suffered quite as publicly under the game’s rule as Twitch streamer Timothy “TimTheTatman” Betar. Over the course of eight days, Betar has repeatedly struggled to avoid elimination in-game, and never won a single match.
On August 11, TimTheTatman triedFall Guysout on stream for the first time. As his first round kicked off, he bragged “that he was going to win his very first” game. Ironically, he failed to qualify for the next round due to a last minute fumble. After his first loss, the teasing began to trickle in, as one chat member joked that his four year old performed better in his first round than the Twitch streamer.

In the first few days of attempts, Betar tweeted about how difficult the game was. However, his lamentation quickly devolved into rage as the losses piled up. At this point, theFall Guyscommunity began playing into the joke. While stream snipers and players set out to specifically grab TimTheTatman and prevent him from winning,the officialFall GuysTwitter accounttook notice, and began mocking the streamer for continually losing.
In the final stretch of attempts, the Twitch streamer’s rage got the attention of major media outlets like ESPN, which collected clips from Betar’s many failures and covered his ongoing struggle untilhe finally won aFall Guysmatch two days later.During his final attempts on August 19, Betar reached the final round several times. In one attempt that ESPN covered, he was even one of the last two contestants. Ultimately, TimTheTatman’s final run drew in over 300,000 viewers on Twitch. According to the stream VOD, many fans were there to cheer Tim on and to witness his historical first victory. After he won, theFall GuysTwitter account, Twitch, several streamers and fans congratulated him.
However, the 300,000 viewer mark is not the only massive boost that Betar’s Twitch channel has seen in the past week. In another recent tweet,TimTheTatman shared his statistics after the winning stream,and said that he was unsure if he could ever achieve this level of popularity again. Considering the mainstream coverage Betar’s story received, as well asFall Guys’skyrocketing popularity, these figures seem more understandable.
Although the officialFall GuysTwitter account has rewarded the Twitch streamer’s first victory with a follow, it is unclear whether TimTheTatman will rise toMediatonic’s next challenge- to win five matches in a row. For now, fans are reveling in the end of a historic stream of bad luck.
